22 Thy
silver [keceph] is become dross, [ciyg] thy
wine [cobe'] mixed [mahal] with water: [mayim] KJV-Interlinear
22 Your
silver has become dross, Your drink diluted with water. NASB
Both silver and wine were considered valuable and sought after commodities.
In their purest form, they had both great value and demand among all peoples. They were both respected and desired.
This is the nature of a person who pursues truth. Truth is in its pure form when not diluted with lies or compromises that detract from it, and it has great value for the life of the believer in Christ.
However, when truth becomes diluted with invented opinions or lies, then it ceases to be true and ceases to be desirable, and ceases to have its original value. It can no longer be trusted or reliable.
Dross is the impurities that are removed from a valuable mineral. Silver out of the ground, or gold, have to be processed to have their impurities removed. With impurities, the mineral is less valuable and less able to be valued.
Silver when mixed in with rock or soil, cannot be accurately measured or valued. But when refined, when the dross is removed, then its value can be ascertained more precisely. You would not place the same value on an ounce of pure silver, compared to an ounce of soil with some silver mixed within it.
In an evil society, then the government, and social standards, the economics, the whole of life become mixed with the impurities of sin and evil. Opinions become a dime a dozen. Standards loosen to include all sorts of bias and unfair rules. The purity of life, the truth of reality, gets lost in the quagmire of philosophy.
And therefore just as dross reduces the value and the desirability of silver, and water dilutes the quality of wine, so too, sin and human good reduce the importance of truth in society.
As truth is ignored, then lies become more acceptable and the many alternative views of life become more acceptable, but unfortunately unlike truth and a correct spiritual life which has huge value, the diluted life has less quality and less value, if any.
When you ignore your daily study of the scriptures, then you accept something of less value by default. By accepting less value, you accumulate less wealth, which in turn translates into zero sooner or later. A zero accumulation in life means a wasted life.
So do not dilute your life by the mere act of disregarding your daily study of the Word of God.
