Ruth 3:14-18

Lesson # Ruth. 3:14-18
Study Material - Ruth. 3:14-18

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ruth 3:14-18

14 So she lay at his feet until morning and rose before one could recognize another; and he said, 'Let it not be known that the woman came to the threshing floor.' 15 Again he said, 'Give me the cloak that is on you and hold it.' So she held it, and he measured six measures of barley and laid it on her. Then she went into the city. 16 And when she came to her mother-in-law, she said, 'How did it go, my daughter?' And she told her all that the man had done for her. 17 And she said, 'These six measures of barley he gave to me, for he said, 'Do not go to your mother-in-law empty-handed.' 18 Then she said, 'Wait, my daughter, until you know how the matter turns out; for the man will not rest until he has settled it today.'

Ruth remained until morning. It would have been too dangerous for her to be out alone at night. Early in the morning, Boaz gave her some grain to take to Naomi. Ruth left and returned to Naomi. Boaz left and went to the city gate where he would meet the other kinsman (unnamed), and then begin the negotiation on Naomi's behalf first, then that of Ruth, and then conclude the matter.

Now the matter is in the hands of providence. We do what we can in life within the means we are given. All of us are given physical gifts or talents at birth. And actually these gifts or talents are probably best described as being received or initiated at the point of conception. They would go along with the genetics of our physical being. Some of us are very smart, some not so smart. Some of us are very athletic, and of course many of us are not so athletically inclined. All of us receive various abilities that get us along in life.

On the spiritual side, we are all given a spiritual gift at the moment when we believed in Christ. These spiritual gifts may be enhancements of our physical gifts, or they may be totally unrelated. God has a sense of humor. As we grow up in life we have a responsibility to work with whatever God has given us, and work with those talents in a legitimate fashion. We also have a responsibility to realize that there is a limit to our abilities. This is the point where faith takes over in our lives.

Naomi did what she could do. She had some land and a daughter-in-law. She offered her property to Ruth. Ruth went to Boaz and asked his help in accomplishing their goal. Now Ruth is at home, having done all that she could do and the matter was placed in the hands of her redeemer.

Our redeemer is Christ. He took no shortcuts in history in providing redemption for us. He as the God/man, the unique person of history, could have used His divine powers to cut through history and just given us salvation, but that would not have accomplished the goals of history for God.

Satan wants all of life in his own terms. He challenges everything God does. Satan questions everything that God does, thus history unfolds to play out that contest. God demonstrates that He alone is the sole provider for all, and that He alone provides what is best for all. That creation has no control over its future. Mans history demonstrates mans failure in history, and were it not for Gods assistance, man would have been extinct long ago.

Therefore, Naomi's advice, 'wait'. We do what we can on a daily basis and wait spiritually. We get our education, we get our employment, we do whatever comes natural to us. We use whatever abilities and common sense God gave us. We also study our Bibles and place our lives in Gods hands.

We do not do stupid things like pray for a cure to appendicitis, when God has given us a medical mechanisms to assist in that kind of thing. So we look to whatever tools are available in life to help us make our life better. Again, common sense has to enter into the picture of our lives.

Those who charge out of their mothers womb into the world are mere infants, totally helpless. Those who charge out of a military landing craft assaulting a beach with bullets flying every which way are totally helpless. None of us can turn back for safety. We have no choice but to advance in life and place our lives in Gods hands. Sooner or later, no matter what your IQ, no matter what your social status, no matter what your bank balance, and so forth, you will meet your limit and then God takes over. We either realize it early in life and we prepare with our Bible study so we can get through those trying times, or we arrogantly ignore the limitations of life and we eventually suffer for our lack of preparation.

Ruth was not embarrassed by her relative low station in life. She was poor, she had to glean grain and depend on the kindness of others for her meager survival. But she recognized that God would pull his blanket over her for her protection and blessing, just as she pulled Boaz's blanket over herself, looking to Boaz as her redeemer kinsman.

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
