Psalm 18:35

http://www.dailybiblestudy.org

35 Thou hast also given [nathan] me the shield [magen] of thy salvation: [yesha`] and thy right hand [yamiyn] hath holden me up, [ca`ad] and thy gentleness [`anvah] hath made me great. [rabah] KJV-Interlinear

35 Thou hast also given me the shield of Thy salvation, And Thy right hand upholds me; And Thy gentleness makes me great. NASB

While these last few verses give credit to God, for ones fleetness of feet, for ones usefulness of hands, for ones strength and perfection, this verse now extends the umbrella of protection by the descriptive use of the battle shield.

This is not just any shield, but the battle shield of God.

The wall of fire that protected the Israelites when their backs were to the sea and they had to face the Egyptians, with seemingly no escape. So too, each and every individual believer has that same wall of impenetrable fire as their shield.

We cannot see it. We cannot feel it. We cannot measure it. We cannot detect it. Nothing of a spiritual nature can be overtly perceived in this physical world.

And yet God provides you with a shield that is totally impenetrable by any and all worldly weapons.

Whether nuked into a trillion bits, your soul and spirit are perfectly safe in Gods hands, unharmed and in heaven.

Whether tortured to death by whatever means, your soul and spirit are perfectly safe in Gods hands, unharmed and in heaven.

Weather stressed by peer pressures, by worldly enticements, by lusts, by greed, by crime, self-righteousness, coveting yearns, or whatever, Bible doctrine is there (if you have learned anything), to help you avoid or turn away from life's temptations.

But, the shield has to be constructed. It is not automatic with the exception of salvation. Life's shield comes with, and is strengthened by, the learning of Bible doctrine and the growing up process of the spiritual life.

The right hand is the symbolism of strength. Gods arm is doctrine. His strength is imputed into our lives through His Word, which has to be learned. If you do not learn a thing, then you cannot know it. If you do not know something then you cannot possess it. Anything that you do not have, is of no value to you, needless to say.

You and all people alike, are nothing more than a life essence imputed into dust. That does not leave you much to boast about.

Any greatness that you might possess, must come from something that is great, which is outside of you.

Bible doctrine is the only thing that can be classified as great, in all of this universe and beyond.

Therefore, in order for you to be great, or even close, you must acquire Bible doctrine, learn it, receive it into your soul, understand it, and fully incorporate it into your life. That doctrine, makes you great. Apart from doctrine, you are nothing.
