23 I was
also upright [tamiym] before him, and I kept [shamar] myself from mine iniquity. [`avon] KJV-Interlinear
23 I was
also blameless with Him, And I kept myself from my iniquity. NASB
Upright, 'tamiym,' means integrity, truth, complete, perfect, sound.
Kept, 'shamar,' means to hedge about as in the avoiding of thornes, to guard, review, take heed, observe, watch.
In order for man to be prefect and without sin, since mans fundamental nature is in sin, means that a process that is provided only by God must be used in order to attain such a perfect state. Man cannot attain a state of perfection on his own.
This is the confession process as outlined in the fourth and fifth sacrificial rituals outlined in the first seven chapters of Leviticus, and also explained in 1 John 1.
The believer who is legitimately trying to advance in their spiritual life, will watch his own life, moment by moment, day by day, and will confess his sins to God the Father, in order to get himself back into fellowship.
Fellowship is the spiritual state that is defined by God, as the state of perfection, which entitles one to interact with God.
The believer who is responsible in their spiritual life, goes to great effort in reviewing their own individual life moment by moment, day after day throughout their life.
The sphere of greatest blessing exists within the fellowship sphere. There are no blessings outside of that sphere.
Therefore, residing in fellowship is extremely important and of great value. The single greatest position and possession of value in all of existence.
By reviewing ones life, by monitoring ones sinful state, by guarding against sin or evil thoughts or activity, watching oneself regularly, then and only then can you confess when necessary, and restore yourself back into fellowship quickly. This serves as a spiritual governor, imposed upon yourself in order to maintain an alert state of readiness, just as a soldier must remain alert at his guard station, against any and all enemies.
Once sin is confessed, it is wiped out and ones spiritual state is restored. You may still face repercussions from your sin, but your spiritual function resumes. Do not confuse Gods forgiveness of sin, with legitimate punishment of that sin, especially in the case of crime, or social repercussions that might result from this world.
Gods mandate to you, is to walk upright, which means to live your life moment by moment while in fellowship.
This moment by moment life is the ultimate Sabbath, which means living in the moment by moment fellowship with God, and is symbolized by the once a week Sabbath or Sunday or holiday observations that are intended to teach this principle.
Therefore, confession is required in order to attain the perfect spiritual status, and watching out for any and everything in your own life that might derail that state, must be guarded against, always, in order to keep that perfect state.
