You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

2 Timothy 2:26

http://www.dailybiblestudy.org

26 And [kai] that they may recover themselves [ananepho] out of [ek] the snare [pagis] of the devil, [diabolos] who are taken captive [zogreo] by [hupo] him [autos] at [eis] his [ekeinos] will. [thelema] KJV-Interlinear

26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will. NASB

To recover to ones senses, or to recover themselves, 'ananepho,' means to recover to a sober state, from a non-sober state.

This is a reference to the mental state of the individual, but more than that, it is in reference to the spiritual state, which is the fundamental state of mind and life environment which God intends for us all to live within.

The state of spirituality, is the state of soberness, or clarity of thought, of clear thinking, of clear sight, of clear balance, of full control over ones faculties, of light.

The state of a non-sober person is the opposite of these. Non-sober is the state of drunkenness, of vagueness of thought, of fog, of darkness, of imbalance, of poor reflexes, of the inability to see or think or react or respond correctly.

Life gives us plenty of examples in the lives of drunks and non-drunks. This is not restricted to the consumption of alcohol, but of any means of reality escape, including drugs, and other indulgences.

Non-sober people live in anger, violence, self-denial, in lies, in theft, in all sorts of false ideas. And they end up tanked and worse in life.

Sober people live a life of relative clarity and balance and orientation to the world around them.

Now elevate this comparison to the spiritual life.

Life in fellowship, is the sober life. There is the clarity of thought, or learning, of correct orientation to God, to life, to people, to self, and so forth.

Life out of fellowship, is the non-sober life, the life of the drunk. And while a drunk has many levels of drunkenness, so too the non-spiritual person, or out of fellowship person has many levels of rejection or indifference toward truth.

Being briefly in and out of fellowship is like taking a sip from time to time. But being continually out of fellowship is like having a major drinking problem. It overtakes you before you realize it, and even then the drunk denies their situation.

That unfortunately is the state of most of the world. Out of fellowship and out of sync with reality, especially spiritual reality.

Truth is like the hot coffee of life. Better to hear truth even if rejected, because there are many forms of truth that can lead to the bringing back to reality, those who are lost in their spiritual senses.

Life throws many situations at us, birth, death, accidents, weather and storms, unemployment, lack of money, social difficulties, and the list is endless. Something or someone may strike the spark of reality in a person and save them for all of eternity.

That spark may be you.

But before you become that spark, make sure that you are living the correct life God expects, that you are learning and understanding life as God expects of you, so that you do not become a part of the problem through mis-information and false ideas.

There is nothing worse than a well meaning, but thoroughly confused Christian.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
