You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

1 John 5:7-8

7 For [hoti] there are [eisi] three [treis] that bear record [martureo] in [en] heaven [ouranos], the Father [pater], the Word [logos], and [kai] the Holy [hagios] Ghost [pneuma]: and [kai] these [houtos] three [treis] are [eisi] one [heis].
8 And [kai] there are [eisi] three [treis] that bear witness [martureo] in [en] earth [ge], the Spirit [pneuma], and [kai] the water [hudor], and [kai] the blood [haima]: and [kai] these three [treis] agree [eisi] in [eis] one [heis]. KJV-Interlinear

7 And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth. 8 For there are three that bear witness, the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. NASB

Any legal matter which if it was to be settled in a court of law had to be accompanied with and supported by two or three witnesses. One witness was not enough to settle a matter, especially a criminal matter.

Deut. 17:6
6 On the evidence of two witnesses or three witnesses, NASB

Deut. 19:15
on the evidence of two or three witnesses a matter shall be confirmed. NASB

Matt. 18:16
16 'But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every fact may be confirmed. NASB

2 Cor. 13:1
Every fact is to be confirmed by the testimony of two or three witnesses. NASB

Since the Holy Spirit has been around since eternity past, and since the Holy Spirit is the means of communication of all Old Testament scripture (New Testament too), then it is His witness which begins the proof of the authenticity of the scriptures and the truth of God.

This is later confirmed historically by the first advent of Christ with His daily life (through all of the ceremonial washings which taught the reality of fellowship) from birth to the baptism, through the baptism with John the Baptist, which again represents the eventual reality of the baptism of the Holy Spirit which will come to all believers (in our Church Age) after the Cross, through the descent of the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove onto Jesus , representing Gods unique selection and anointing of the Son, and finally through the Cross and the personal sacrifice of Christ as a substitutionary sacrifice for mankind.

The Holy Spirit communicates all scripture to those who will listen. If you are reading this study, and if you are in fellowship, then even though you are reading this study or are hearing someone else read it to you, it is the Holy Spirit who is making the actual communication of this truth into your soul through your human spirit.

You cannot see the Holy Spirit. You cannot feel Him. You cannot detect His presence in any way. But we believe this is true because the Bible says it is so and we utilize our faith to accept it as a fact of reality. The spiritual life is outside of the physical realm. You will not have any emotional contact or emotional indicators of the presence of the Holy Spirit. So none of this holy roller stuff is real. You can have a really bad headache and still be in fellowship. Fellowship is dependent on your exercise of confession and your refraining from sin. And that is merely an application of the rules which God has laid out for us.

The water is representative of the washings of your life - washing the head, the hands, the feet, etc. This is your walk through life on a daily basis while in fellowship. And of course this cannot be accomplished unless you have previously believed in Jesus Christ. It is the work of Christ on the Cross (the blood) which makes this life (our spiritual life) possible.

Without the Cross there is no spiritual life possible.

These three, the Spirit who accomplishes all communication of Bible doctrine and the perfect and only real baptism, the water which is your daily walk through life with God by means of the washing away of your sins through confession, and the blood which is the work of Christ on the Cross in our place, then all three are in agreement and none can be eliminated or excluded from the others. Nor can anything else be substituted in any of their respective places.

This comprises the entirety of the spiritual life (in a nut shell anyway). Without them you have no spiritual life.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
