Triumphant Entry
John 12:34-35

34 The people [ochlos] answered [apokrinomai] him [autos] , We [hemeis] have heard [akouo] out of [ek] the law [nomos] that [hoti] Christ [Christos] abideth [meno] for [eis] ever [aion] : and [kai] how [pos] sayest [lego] thou [su] , [hoti] The Son [huios] of man [anthropos] must [dei] be lifted up [hupsoo] ? who [tis] is [esti] this [houtos] Son [huios] of man [anthropos] ?
35 Then [oun] Jesus [Iesous] said [epo] unto them [autos] , Yet [eti] a little [mikros] while [chronos] is [esti] the light [phos] with [meta] you [humon] . Walk [peripateo] while [heos] ye have [echo] the light [phos] , lest [hina me] darkness [skotia] come upon [katalambano] you [humas] : for [kai] he that walketh [peripateo] in [en] darkness [skotia] knoweth [eido] not [ou] whither [pou] he goeth [hupago] . KJV-Interlinear

34 The multitude therefore answered Him, 'We have heard out of the Law that the Christ is to remain forever; and how can You say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up'? Who is this Son of Man?' 35 Jesus therefore said to them, 'For a little while longer the light is among you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness may not overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. NASB

Jesus is speaking to people who have come for what purpose? To see Him and to see Lazarus. Why? Because they have heard of some pretty remarkable miracles. A man has been raised up from the dead, not in some obscure and secluded place, but in full public view with numerous witnesses.

Jesus has been performing miracles for over three years now. His reputation goes out to all regions before Him. Before His birth there were those (Magi) who came from afar just to see the infant child. Even now, during this conversation, there are Greeks who came a long way to see Him.

The people have been celebrating the sacrifices every year of their lives for however long they have been alive. What was the purpose of those sacrifices?

Do you recall Jesus answer to John the Baptist, when John asked if He were indeed the Christ? Jesus quoted scripture for His answer to John. Many miracles never before seen are now being seen.

Daniel gave a detailed account of the birth of Christ and of His death. Dating both.

Numerous scriptures are available documenting the Messiah. And these folks ask a rather rude question, 'Who is this Son of Man?' This question by itself indicates the nature of the Messiah. He will be a man. His first name Jesus (Joshua) indicate His deity for that is what those words mean. Messiah and Christ are the same word in their respective languages (Hebrew and Greek).

And what has just occurred? Why were the people there in the first place? To see Lazarus? Why Lazarus? Has anyone ever heard of a dead man being raised back to life? Who is this Son of man?

Do you see the inconsistency of people who are not really interested in God. They are more interested in the results of the coming Kingdom, and how it will affect them. They are more interested in the miracles and just being there to see first hand the man who was raised. If they had cameras, they would be taking pictures, sending post cards back home, buying Lazarus T-shirts. This was nothing more than a vacation destination.

'Lets see now. Lets check our itinerary for tomorrow. We have seen Jesus. We have seen Lazarus. Tomorrow we will go see the Temple, where Solomon walked, where David walked. Then we will ride our donkeys through the drive through restaurant at David's Eat and Go ...'

These events were nothing more than an entertainment. Another ho hum event. Been there, done that. What shall we do tomorrow.

And we have seen Jesus' response to all of this. 'For a little while longer.' Just a few more days remain while the light of the world is here and then He will be gone (in the flesh). Is there anyone who wants to really get to know God? Here He is. Just walk up and shake His hand. How many have had the opportunity to shake Gods hand?

What would you do if you had that opportunity? And yet we all have that opportunity to get to know Jesus Christ through our daily Bible study, 'Study to show thy self approved.'

And there is your test. To either choose for the light of the knowledge of His word in your life, or to choose for darkness (absence of Gods word in your soul).

If you learn Gods Word, and grow up and remain in fellowship throughout, then you will apply His Word to your daily life. You do that which you think. If however you do not learn Gods Word, then you do not have it in your soul and therefore cannot think Gods wisdom nor use it in your life. If you don't know it, you can't use it.

Those folks back then had Him in person, and they did not take advantage of it. You have His Word, which is the same opportunity of getting to know Christ, and of having a great life. So what do we do about that? Accept it and move forward in our life, or do we look for something better?
