Proverbs 5:7

7 Now then, my sons, listen to me, And do not depart from the words of my mouth. 8 Keep your way far from her, And do not go near the door of her house, 9 Lest you give your vigor to others, And your years to the cruel one; 10 Lest strangers be filled with your strength, And your hard-earned goods go to the house of an alien; 11 And you groan at your latter end, When your flesh and your body are consumed;

Solomon repeats his warning, ‘listen to me’. Listen to the teaching of Bible doctrine, and learn it so that the words taught, the concepts taught will be drilled into that little brain of yours and then your mouth will reflect some real content inside that head. You cannot speak of that which you do not know. So your mouth is the real doorway to the soul. Your eyes can fool others. No one can look into your eyes and see the real you, but they can hear you and in time and with discernment, they can figure you out. Sooner or later a person without doctrine in the soul will be discovered by even the youngest of believers. A more mature believer can figure you out rather quickly.

So listen and learn so you can see reality. So you can discern between the good and the not so good. So you can avoid the traps that the world sets out for you. So you can avoid the traps that your own sin nature sets out for you. Listen and learn, and more important, don’t depart from what you have learned. Don’t stray from your daily Bible study. Why would you want to advance so far then lose out on the most important race in your life, by quitting when you near the finish line?

So stay far away from ‘her’. Who is this ‘her’ that Solomon is referring to, and why does he refer to ‘her’ as a female? Why doesn’t he say stay away from ‘him’? Are women more deceitful? No, of course not. Solomon is referring to the pattern of reactions and response that we all have to life and not to the gender per se.

The ‘her’ is a reference to the adulterous, the harlot, the sin nature, or better yet to the temptations of the sin nature. Remember that you have a sin nature inside you, and have had it since your birth. We all have one. We inherited it from Adam through our parents. It is the weakness we received due to the spiritual death we incurred when we were born. We are all born spiritually dead. Though we might be physically alive when we are born, we are spiritually dead. Therefore the need for Christ and salvation, the need for the second birth into eternal life which you receive when you believe in Christ.

But even still, saved or unsaved, you still have your sin nature. You can still choose for God or ignore Him. So you have the threat of the sin nature always with you, at least in this life. The sin nature is the harlot, who lures you, or tries to lure you into sinful activities, distracting you from Bible doctrine. Your defense is your volition and it is supported and strengthened by Bible doctrine. Without Bible doctrine, there is little strength in your volition. With Bible doctrine in your soul, you have considerable strength and are able to make the right decisions more often.

So listen and learn. Stay far away from the enticements of the sin nature for she will lure you into her trap. A trap which has strong jaws of death. There is the feminine reference again. Why? The female and male aspects of life have different connotations. The male being the aggressor, your volition. The one advancing on or confronting a given situation. The female reference is the response or the reaction to a given situation. The proper function of the feminine is to respond positively. The proper function of the male reference is to advance, take charge, command. The feminine reference to the sin nature is to lure with deceit so you will respond to her lure, then the result is the wormwood, two edged sword reference in verse 4. That which you seek as pleasant, that which you consume and swallow is sweet going down, but when you vomit it up, there is a very disgusting and disagreeable taste. Its poison makes you choke. The sword of lust or desire you sought to use to your benefit is turned against yourself, and it hacks you up. You become a victim of your own decisions.

So the warning. Stay away from the sin nature’s enticements. Build up your defenses against her. And the only defense against sin and death is Bible doctrine. Otherwise, others will take advantage of you. Apart from Bible doctrine you live at the mercy of the jungle rules in this world, and those rules are completely unfair, and merciless. You are just another victim in the jungle always open to attack by others even more ruthless and uncaring, verses 9-11.

Others will take that which you have worked so hard for. You will be taken advantage of, cheated, and cast off to the side of the road to rot as the world drives by not giving you the slightest glance of concern. All of your vigor, and ability will waste away. You will have destroyed your entire life for nothing. Those who seek prosperity, who hustle around in life thinking that they need to hustle more than the next guy to stay even or get ahead, will end up losing everything. The study of Bible doctrine gives you all these blessings and more, and without the hassle or hustle that the jungle expects.

Ignoring Bible doctrine and embracing sin is a road to ruin. It is a road of deceit and false promises. God has given us each capital assets in this life, to invest in our futures. Those assets are time, volition and doctrine. Using them unwisely is like throwing money away, and how many of us can afford to throw our money away? Using them wisely is an investment in eternity as well as in our current lifetime, and the payback is beyond comprehension.

Study [by instruction],

to show thyself approved [spiritually mature]

unto God,

a workman [student]

that need not be ashamed [ignorant],

rightly dividing [learning, understanding, discerning]

the word of truth [Bible doctrine].

If you can dream and not make dreams your master,

If you can think and not let thoughts narrow your views,

If you can meet triumph with disaster equally,

If you can learn and see your full meaning and purpose in life,

Then you can believe in Christ, learn Bible doctrine, and grow far beyond the potential that God has prepared for you.

These studies are a part of the massive daily study web site at DailyBibeStudy.Org, and are written, so that you can come to Christ if you have not done so already, and therefore not be lost forever.

And if you have already believed in Christ, then these studies are written so you can learn and understand and grow in your spiritual life, so that you can come to the full knowledge of Christ, so that you can fulfill your meaning and purpose in life as God intended for you, and so you can qualify for a phenomenal eternal reward which you will have forever.

To ignore this opportunity to pursue a daily study means you will be incomplete, unfulfilled and you will lose out, big time.

The Daily Bible Study is online, making it possible as never before in all of human history, to advance in ones relationship with God, through Christ, and to complete yourself beyond your imagination.

But each person has to decide to make that commitment. No one else can study for you. You have to do that yourself.

Keep in the Word, Isa. 41:10.
