The key to this verse is the word for many, ‘rab,’ which mean quantity, abound, exceedingly, full, great, multitude.
This is in reference to the numbers of people who will live throughout the Millennium, both at its beginning and during the course of that era.
When every era in history began, people in general, turned away from God. And not so much as a turning away, but a turning toward, evil.
After Adam and Eve were evicted in the Garden, that population turned away and thus the flood.
After the flood, that subsequent population turned away constantly, and thus the rejection of Jesus at the First Advent.
After the beginning of the Church Age, even our own dispensation has had its massive turning away through the dark ages and at many other times, and when we finally arrive at the end of our dispensation, a massive exodus from God will occur in the ‘great apostasy’ that will consume the world. This we are studying in 2 Tim.
Even when the Tribulation occurs, the masses of peoples who turn toward God will be martyred leaving the rest of an evil world for the worst judgment ever to occur in all of human history.
But, when the Millennium begins, all judgment of evil will have cleaned the world, leaving many people who will have survived the Tribulation.
This verse suggests two things. First, the phrases, ‘shall go,’ and ‘and say,’ ‘halak,’ and ‘amar,’ indicate both an initial coming out of hiding in order to travel, and a repeated traveling back and forth from their homes, to Jerusalem, to see and hear Jesus Christ.
As all other eras saw the negative attitudes of people thrive throughout society, even in times of adversity, this era (the millennium) then, will see an ongoing positive attitude toward Christ throughout the entire period of the millennium.
In all other eras, religion and all manner of false philosophies dominated the landscape. But in the millennium, Christianity will be the dominant faith, by far.
And yes there will be a massive population, as we have studied in Revelation, by the end of the Millennium, who will have rejected Christ, even as He rules during that time. But the overwhelming population will be pro-Christ, and the terminology herein makes that very clear. And it will remain such throughout the Millennium, even until and after, Satan is released from his 1000 year imprisonment.
He will teach us, indicates that Bible study will remain as the primary means of spiritual learning. People will listen and they will be taught and they will learn.
To the mountain of God, refers to Zion and Jerusalem, the one and only place where Gods rule will come from. The house of Jacob further narrows the source of this faith, eliminating all other religions and beliefs.
The term Jacob also makes reference to the Old Testament population, being continued in the Millennium. Church Age believers are not in view here. The Millennium will not occur during our dispensation. Far too many people want to believe that man will bring the Millennium into our history before God returns, and that is simply not the case.
The Age of Israel the Tribulation, and the Millennium, are of the House of Jacob. We, in the Church Age are not of those era’s. Our dispensation was hidden from the Old Testament view and thus Isaiah makes no reference to us or our dispensation.
And people will walk or live their lives, in accordance with spiritual principles. People will not only come from across the planet, but they will learn and live life as God intends for them to live.
Out of Zion comes the law, and out of Jerusalem comes the Word.
The law here is not the content of the Levitical priesthood, but the framework of the principles of Gods truth.
The Word, is the content or the nuts and bolts of truth.
Zion is the mountain which exists within Jerusalem and also refers to the massive or mountain, of doctrine available from God.
Jerusalem is the city within which that mountain of knowledge exists. Jerusalem means city of rest, and so, true rest or completeness or true relaxation or true inner peace, comes from the content of that rest, which is doctrine.
When one learns and possesses doctrine, then one attains true inner peace. Zion is within Jerusalem, and doctrine within the soul produces the greatest possible life one can ever attain.
There is no other means of contentment and completeness of ones life, other than by doctrine in the soul. And that doctrine must be learned. It does not come by magic or by wishing or by emotional sincerity.
People will travel the world over to listen and learn.
The question out of this is, what are people today, willing to do? Anything?
