6 Let
their way [derek] be dark [choshek] and
slippery [chalaqlaqqah]: and let the angel [mal'ak] of the LORD [Y@hovah]
persecute [radaph] them. KJV-Interlinear
6 Let their
way be dark and slippery, with the angel of the LORD pursuing them! ESV
Angel of the Lord is a phrase that means the Lord Himself, a messenger, a message from the Lord, a messenger, a representative, or something that equates with the Lord.
The chaff of the previous verse, symbolizes those who reject Christ and truth.
Christ is God and God is truth, therefore the message being delivered continually by God is truth.
And those who reject truth are in continual darkness, blown in the wind, running in total darkness, for truth is light and anything else is darkness.
Not knowing where they are. Not knowing where they are going. They are in constant retreat.
They are never on solid ground. The way of darkness is slippery, with no sure footing. The way is constantly perilous and full of danger, and yet in the darkness, no one can see the danger that exists or where it is.
And so this contributes to the terror of living away from truth, for the threats are constant, the dangers are very real, and there is never any rest, nor will there be rest.
