You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
2 My soul [nephesh] shall make her
boast [halal] in the LORD [Yahovah]: the humble [`anav] shall
hear [shama`] thereof, and be glad [samach]. KJV-Interlinear
2 My soul
makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. ESV
Later we will see that only the wise, which refers to spiritually mature individuals, are capable of making this type of expression, honestly from their soul.
The word for boast represents the inner attitude of priority where one expresses an attitude towards that which has meaning and value to oneself.
And since our relationship with God is through the Lord and savior, then this is a reference to Christ. The word for Lord here is the personal name of the person of God, namely Jesus Christ.
The humble is not a reference to those who are helpless or poor, but humble of spirit and soul.
The humble refers to those who place God and doctrine above themselves, setting their own arrogance and self-interests aside.
The priority is to learn of God and grace and all that is spiritual, because that is the overriding issue above all issues in life.
Life has its responsibilities and obligations, but those are or should be, subordinate to, and as a result of, ones spiritual pursuit.
If you pursue your spiritual life, then all other things in life come together naturally.
