6 But I am
a worm, [towla`] and no man; ['iysh] a
reproach [cherpah] of men, ['adam] and despised [bazah] of the
people. [`am] KJV-Interlinear
6 But I am
a worm, and not a man, A reproach of men, and despised by the people. NASB
Jesus, while hanging on the cross, describes himself as the lowest of the low, a worm.
But not just any worm. This worm is crushed. Crushed such that it is beyond recognition. When crushed it yields a crimson scarlet color, which is used as a dye for coloring clothing, the clothing of royalty.
The reproach of men, signifies the attitude that people had toward Jesus. Jesus had never done any wrong thing. Quite the contrary, He performed many miracles, cured and healed many people, and while He was of use to the crowds, either in entertainment or providing physical relief, then He was popular.
But when He challenged the priesthood, which was horribly evil, He was rejected, tortured, and tormented by a viewing and angry public that had no clue as to what they were doing, or to whom they were doing it.
For seemingly no reason, an angry public hated Jesus.
So, while Jesus is crushed under the weight of sin, tormented by the rejection and mocking of people, to a point that imitates the loss of recognition and acknowledgment of who He really is, comes the scarlet color that out of that crushing, arises the robes of royalty.
