You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
14 Behold,
he travaileth [chabal] with iniquity, ['aven] and
hath conceived [harah] mischief, [`amal] and brought forth [yalad]
falsehood. [sheqer] KJV-Interlinear
14 Behold,
he travails with wickedness, And he conceives mischief, and brings forth
falsehood. NASB
Travail, is a reference to the pains and labors of childbirth. And in this case a very long and drawn out and difficult childbirth.
However in the case of the wicked person, the pain and labor is one of wickedness. Wickedness is a reference to the whole system of sin and/or anti-spiritual activity. Everything that one does while living outside of the fellowship sphere.
Conceiving mischief, refers to a conscious effort of planning or devising systems of life that are in opposition to that which God has designed.
Falsehood is more then something that is false or deceitful, it refers to something that is destined to fail for lack of substance. Something that is vain, empty, lacking content and therefore having nothing, can come to nothing.
Therefore, the idea here is that the wicked person, the person, any person, who lives outside of Gods plan, goes to great lengths in their work and effort, to design things, life things, that are destined to end up in disaster and failure.
This is sort of like kids that go to great lengths to avoid doing what they should do, and pursue things that avoid their responsibilities. If they applied all that energy to doing what they are supposed to do, then they would accomplish great things.
But kids are a good example of people who go the extra mile to do nothing.
That is essentially what living outside of the spiritual life is. You have to work far harder to avoid the spiritual life than you would if you applied yourself, in the spiritual life.
In carnality (life outside of the spiritual life) the work effort required is greater than normal.
In the spiritual life, God does all of the work and the work effort on your part comes much easier.
Don't misunderstand. You are still required to be responsible within your life, and pursue and fulfill your obligations in life, as well as obey the many principles of truth.
But, in the end, Psalm 1 if you remember, the goal of life is happiness's (plural). And God provides the means and mechanisms to accomplish them.
In the carnal life, the work effort is greater and greater, and you will never achieve happiness, let alone the many more blessings that God freely gives.
