You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
2 Lest he
tear [taraph] my soul [nephesh] like a
lion, ['ariy] rending it in pieces, [paraq] while there is none to deliver. [natsal] KJV-Interlinear
2 Lest he
tear my soul like a lion, Dragging me away, while there is none to deliver. NASB
David does not specifically identify Saul as his arch enemy, even though Saul was in constant pursuit of David for many years. The use of the ambiguous name, Cush, suggests many enemies, as the world has many who can and will be, in opposition to believers.
The world constantly rotates on its axis. The world is in constant motion. The enemies in the world are always attempting to destroy good and truth.
And like the lion, they pursue relentlessly, and then seize their prey, and then they do not simply choke or kill their captured prey, the lion immediately begins to tear the victim apart, eating while the victim is still alive, throwing the victim into constant and horrendous terror and pain and suffering, dying a very slow death.
The victim of the lion is caught in its powerful claws and jaws. And if you know anything about lions, they hunt in packs. So it is not one lion that holds the victim, but several clawing and chewing and eating from several different positions all over the victim.
Once in this position, the victim is trapped and there is no escape. In the world, which operates in a similar fashion to the jungle, there is no rescue, no escape, no one and nothing to come along and drive off the lions and set the victim free.
So, you can look to one of two solutions for the problems in your life. You can look to the jungle or you can look to God.
The world offers you nothing. God offers you everything and much, much more.
Ignoring God, ignoring Christ, ignoring doctrine, pretending to define your own spiritual life, or simply ignoring the spiritual side of life altogether, or being antagonistic toward it, is a default subscription to the world. And from that you will gain nothing and lose everything.
Trust must be directed toward God, but trust as is faith, is not applied without knowledge. Trust and faith are not intended to be blind, but are intended to originate out of confidence. Confidence comes from knowledge. And knowledge comes from the daily study of the Word of God.
Ignore your spiritual life and you give yourself over to the lions of the world, and they won't care anything for you.
