2 Many [rab] there be which say ['amar] of my soul, [nephesh] There is no help [yashuw`ah] for him in God. ['elohiym] Selah. [celah] KJV-Interlinear
2 Many are saying of my soul, "There is no deliverance for him in God." Selah. NASB
The taunting of Absalom and those following him are described in 2 Sam. 16. The attitude of confidence in the success of evil is described in 2 Sam. 17.
The power of evil is expressed only in its desire, opinions, and agenda, and goes no further than that.
All of the worlds weapons and resources cannot help evil to succeed. The failure of evil is inevitable.
All of histories empires, nations, and leaders have failed. All of the contemporary powers that be, or those who perceive themselves as being in power, will fail. Because their objectives and agenda and methods which are of evil, will never succeed.
All of those who subscribe to the policies of evil will suffer along with the failures of the leadership of evil.
David was the Lords anointed. David was blessed. The nation was blessed by association with David.
And despite the failures of David and the nation, blessings would have eventually come out on top, to benefit everyone.
But the people rejected truth, and consequently were unable to see the benefits of their lives prior to rebellion, were unable to see the discipline of their lives due to their rejection of truth, and therefore turned to evil, which would only make things worse for all.
When truth is rejected, then God applies discipline in order to set matters right.
When people respect discipline, then truth becomes clear and lives are changed for the better.
However, when people reject truth, and reject discipline, then they pursue evil and make matters even worse for themselves. Suffering increases as a result.
Negative people, embrace evil and presume that God will not be able to help anyone that they reject.
Negative people, embrace lies and presume that lies are their truth. Consequently negative people, negative toward truth that is, gain a false sense of confidence in their opinions and views, and policies, and rush to their own objectives without thought of consequences.
And when things go wrong, then the obvious answer is to find someone to blame.
The verse ends with a pause, ‘Selah,’ or a rest.
For as life bounces from plan to plan for most negative people, Gods plan continues along without even a hiccup. Grace keeps on going.
