You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
18 And
therefore will the LORD [Yahovah] wait [chakah], that he may be gracious [chanan] unto you, and therefore will he be exalted
[ruwm], that he may have mercy [racham] upon you: for the LORD [Yahovah] is a God ['elohiym] of judgment [mishpat]: blessed ['esher] are all they that wait [chakah] for him. KJV-Interlinear
18 Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he
exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed
are all those who wait for him. ESV
In the verses leading up to this verse, Isaiah has been describing people who lack spiritual life, because they are lazy, indifferent, opinionated, antagonistic, or otherwise simply do not want to pursue their spiritual life according to the process that the Bible defines.
Negative people have an aversion to being told what to do, presuming that they can do better on their own.
And that is what gets them into spiritual trouble.
People are obstinate, resistant toward Bible instruction, stiff-necked and stubborn, and unfortunately they stick with a negative pattern throughout their life.
And Isaiah describs here, the patience of God.
The LORD waits, is a phrase that indicates His long-suffering patience for a stiff-necked people.
The Lord is a God of justice. That means He will always do what is right.
Blessed are those who wait for Him, indicates that blessing will always come to those who turn toward Christ, who by the way is the Lord being referred to here.
So as long as you are living and breathing, and have the ability to make decisions, you can always turn from your ways, and get back on track with your spiritual life.
Even in your last breath, a positive thought toward Christ, will result in blessing that you can carry with you as you leave this world.
But obviously, waiting until your last breath is not the best option. It is far better to make that change in your life pattern long before you leave this world.
Nevertheless, the point here is that Christ is patient. He has been patient since long before time began. He was patient through the angelic rebellion, He was patient through the events surrounding Adams fall, He was patient through all those many centuries of the Old Testament, He was patient through the events of the cross, He is impatient through all the many centuries up until our current time.
And, He has been patient with you.
None of us can earn or deserve anything that comes from God. If God had human attributes, He would have given up on humanity a long time ago. Thankfully, God is a far than any of us.
