3 The
crown [`atarah] of pride [ge'uwth], the
drunkards [shikkowr] of Ephraim ['Ephrayim], shall be trodden [ramac]
under feet [regel]: KJV-Interlinear
3 The proud
crown of the drunkards of Ephraim will be trodden underfoot; ESV
Pride is equated with arrogance is equated with drunkenness. Arrogance is the attitude that resides within the soul. Pride is the outward appearance or application of arrogance or the application of false confidence in false things. And drunkenness, is the distorted life that cannot be seen by the drunk himself.
When one is drunk, their perceptions and reactions and abilities are all off. Looking on as an observer, you can see their awkwardness and distorted activity and thinking. But the drunks themselves are unaware of their imperfections. They are in denial. They see nothing wrong with their life.
And so life goes for them, until they crash or stumble or fall, and even then, they do not know what has happened, or that it is their fault.
So it is with anyone and everyone who refuses to be taught or learn, Bible doctrine.
In the world they may be perfectly sober, but within their soul they are filled with the fog of disorientation to life, to others, to God, and, they do not see anything wrong with their thinking or in the deficiencies within their soul.
The result? They will eventually come to a bitter end. And if not within their life, then the harsh realities will come at the end of their life. And then it will be too late to make any corrections.
But then, throughout ones entire life there are many opportunities to change ones thinking.
