10 Moreover
the LORD [Yahovah] spake [dabar] again [yacaph] unto Ahaz, ['Achaz] saying,
['amar] KJV-Interlinear
10 Then the
Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying, NASB
Isaiah is still speaking, and God is speaking to Ahaz through the prophet.
Now, Isaiah has been giving Ahaz a message. One that states clearly that even though the two kings from the north are going to invade, they will not succeed and Jerusalem and Judah will not be defeated by them, nor will they assume any control over Judah.
This is a clear message and Ahaz should have been happy and relieved to hear that he and his nation were safe.
However, Ahaz has been investigating the water source for the city, and not planning an attack of his own, or even a counter attack, or even the defense of the nation. He was concerned for his own safety, and his own safety by means of the city. The rest of the country is left to fend for itself. The water source for Jerusalem is of no help to any other part of the country.
Ahaz is thinking of himself. And while listening to Isaiah, he makes no statement, no remark, offers no response whatsoever. There is only silence.
So, God is going to offer Ahaz yet another chance to speak, and even ask for something that will offer even more reassurance for himself, that he is safe and that the country is safe. But mostly this offer is for Ahaz's sake.
And so it goes for us all throughout our life. God speaks to us daily, but most do not listen.
If you are one of those who have been with this study for a while, or even just recently, then you know that we have been going through Psalm 19 and Ephesians 5 concurrently with this study, and you know that even the sun and the stars and all of creation sing out loud, of the design and plan of God and of Gods work.
You know that we all have a place in this life, a place that God put us into, and yet how many will open up their eyes and recognize their place, and even acknowledge the superior wisdom of God, over our own, or even appreciate any of these things?
And yet just as Ahaz is skeptical, even when God speaks to him through Isaiah, so too, most people are skeptical when they hear doctrine through the scriptures, or see the vast detail of the world around them. And that is why people fail.
It is far easier to look for blame elsewhere. It is far easier to complain about that which you do not have. It is far easier to place your worldly wants ahead of Gods will for your life. It is far easier to nitpick at the things of life, than it is to stick with a dedicated and legitimate study, and to observe your individual responsibilities and obligations.
Ahaz has two countries to the north, that want to destroy the entire nation and even the line of David. That is a direct attack on God and Gods plan for all of history. Your problems cannot be anywhere near that kind of magnitude. And yet will you magnify your pet peeves to a greater proportion than your spiritual needs and obligations?
