Titus 3:2
2 To speak evil of [blasphemeo] no man [medeis], to be [einai] no brawlers [amachos], but
gentle [epieikes], shewing [endeiknumi] all [pas] meekness [praotes] unto [pros] all [pas] men [anthropos]. KJV-Interlinear
2 to malign no one, to be
uncontentious, gentle, showing every consideration for all men. NASB
Christians are to reign
in their tongues and their attitudes.
Boasting and
complaining and ridiculing are not to be a part of the Christians character.
No maligning, no
slander, no gossip, no judging. The tongue
is to be used for good conversation, not for the promotion of social sins. If you cannot get attention for yourself, if
you cannot get ahead in an honest manner, then attempting to gain attention or
to promote yourself through causing grief for others,
is not the answer to your success or approbation in life.
Brawling, causing controversy,
creating contention, promoting an adversarial atmosphere is contrary to good
behavior. And yet you will find these
characteristics, not only in society in general, but in legal proceedings or
other settings that are supposed to be free of such things.
Whether you are a
social butterfly, occupy a professional position, enjoy the limelight of celebrityship,
or whatever, you have no right to promote yourself through public controversy,
and yet you will find that, that is the favored and popular means of gaining
attention and promoting ones self.
Those who promote themselves
in this way, violate fundamental Christian principles,
and those who watch and relish this type and method of entertainment, violate
fundamental Christian principles, also.
How many magazines,
publications, media shows both television and radio, or social clubs would be
lost if there was no social controversy in society?
You ve seen the bumper
stickers, Make love not war. But have
you ever seen a sticker that says, Be humble, don t
gossip. Imagine a world without evil. Imagine a world without complainers.
In every aspect of sin,
you are either trying to hurt someone, or advance yourself by means of some illegitimate
method, or at someone else's expense.
Fundamental Christian
principles state that God will provide for all of your needs. And He has.
He has provided you with a life, with an environment, with educational
opportunities, with a talent, or an ability, with all sorts of logistical
support mechanisms in this world, by which you can advance and care for yourself,
or receive care, legitimately.
If you have to cause
harm for someone, take advantage of someone, in order to advance yourself or to
gain attention, then your advancement or gain is illegitimate and will eventually
be lost.
God promotes through Christian
principles, and when God promotes, it is permanent.
You are not promoted
unless God promotes you.You are not
blessed unless God blesses you.
