Romans 4:3

3 For [gar] what [tis] saith [lego] the scripture [graphe]? [de] Abraham [Abraam] believed [pisteuo] God [theos], and [kai] it was counted [logizomai] unto him [autos] for [eis] righteousness [dikaiosune].    KJV-Interlinear

3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.”   ESV

And with all of the explanation, which was only to clarify the issue, Paul quotes Gen. 15:6, which should settle the issue once and for all.

Abraham believed and that credited to him, righteousness.

This belief was non-meritorious. You do not get credit for believing. Belief is a mere thought.

And any boasting before men, was irrelevant, as it had nothing to do with the spiritual realm. Therefore man can boast all he wants, but it has no value as far as eternity is concerned. Its value is restricted to this world and we know that this world is temporary, therefore any boasting is likewise temporary, and anything that is temporary will end and be no more.

Therefore the works of man are worthless, valueless and of no accord. They accomplish nothing.

The blessings from God are gifts, and gifts cannot be earned, nor even deserved.

Abraham, received many promises from God, and the meaning of, believe, indicates Abrahams, undiminished faith and trust in God, believing that God is able to do that which He promises, and will do it.
