31 Do we [katargeo] then [oun] make void [katargeo] the
law [nomos] through [dia] faith [pistis]? God forbid [me][ginomai]: yea [alla], we establish [histemi] the
law [nomos]. KJV-Interlinear
31 Do we
then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold
the law. ESV
Does faith result in the total removal of the Law? No. Faith reinforces the principle of the Law.
The Law demands perfection, which no person is capable of doing. God demands perfection and therefore any failure results in the application of justice, which Jesus took upon Himself in our place.
The Law established the line.
The Law establishes the rule. God refused to issue salvation or pardon to sinners until there was an atonement for those sins.
The Law cannot be violated with impunity, lest everyone would live a life of chaos or licentiousness with total disregard for any form of moral standard.
God respected the Law, thus requiring the application of justice to its violations.
Jesus respected the Law, by living it.
The Cross fulfilled the Law, by paying the price for its violations.
And therefore faith, is our benefit for something that we could never accomplish ourselves.
