16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and drank up the river which the dragon poured out of his mouth. NASB

In the time when the Israelites were brought out of Egypt, God caused several miracles that aided them in their exodus. The most dramatic was probably the parting of the sea, which destroyed the entire Egyptian army, thus ending their reign as a power forever, Ex. 15:19.

There is also the story of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, Num 16:28-33, where God opened up the ground only under their specific tents and belongings and the earth swallowed them up, leaving everything else around them, alone.

In those days, all things were occupying space on the ground, people, tents, chariots, and so forth.

In the future, however, the forces of Satan will be flying as well as traveling on the ground.  There will certainly be helicopters or military jets and such things, that will participate in the pursuit of the Jews.

The word for earth, ‘ge,’ is a broad and general term which applies not only to the ground, or to the land, but also to a country or even to the world conceptually.

When the earth opens itself up and swallows the forces of Satan, that will include the weather in the skies.

Remember that Satan is desperate, and his intent is to murder all Jewish peoples. He is not going to use only limited forces, but everything at his disposal.

God will block those forces using the powers of natural phenomena. So certainly earthquakes will occur, but too, thunderstorms, lightning, and whatever other forces are necessary to disrupt the pursuit of Satan’s forces, will be brought to bear, in order to interfere with visual sightings, electronic communication, targeting, and all of the efforts of Satan’s attempt to capture and kill the Jewish people that are trying desperately themselves, to escape.

People may be so caught up in their running, that they may or may not see the disruptions that are going on behind them, but certainly to an onlooker, it will be apparent and very obvious that the forces of God, using nature only, will be quite successful and miraculous against the forces of Satan, who possesses all of the worlds military might, and yet Satan will fail miserably.
