You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Jude 1:7-8

7 Even as [hos] Sodom [Sodoma] and [kai] Gomorrha [Gomorrha], and [kai] the cities [polis] about [peri] them [autos] in like [homoios] [toutois] manner [tropos], giving themselves over to fornication [ekporneuo], and [kai] going [aperchomai] after [opiso] strange [heteros] flesh [sarx], are set forth for [prokeimai] an example [deigma], suffering [hupecho] the vengeance [dike] of eternal [aionios] fire [pur].
8 Likewise [homoios] [mentoi] also [kai] these [houtos] filthy dreamers [enupniazomai] defile [miaino] the flesh [men] [sarx], [de] despise [atheteo] dominion [kuriotes], and [de] speak evil [blasphemeo] of dignities [doxa]. KJV-Interlinear

7 Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example, in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire. 8 Yet in the same manner these men, also by dreaming, defile the flesh, and reject authority, and revile angelic majesties. NASB

Jude's third example is a continuation of the second. The disobedient angels of Gen. 6, are similar to the disobedient people of the Plain valley of the present day Dead Sea. Before it became a sea, that region was a beautiful valley whose lush pasture lands lured Lot away from Abraham. The Sodom and Gomorrah story is found in Gen. 19.

Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboim, are cites among others, which existed in the valley which is now the present day Dead Sea. In the years prior to its destruction, those same cities were invaded and many were taken captive by an alliance of cities to the north.

Abraham went after the attackers and rescued all of the captives as well as their property. They unfortunately learned nothing from that experience, but went back to their old and degenerate ways, which ways got even worse.

Miracles were provided, doctrine was provided, deliverance was provided, prosperity was restored, and yet none of this made the people of the valley change their ways and turn to God for guidance in their lives.

They were rebellious, defiant, and rejected all authority and all truth. They pursued life in the manner in which they saw fit for themselves. They believed that life was nothing more than that, and at death all life ended. So their philosophy was to live life to the fullest - defined as pursuing and gratifying all their lusts in every conceivable way. They had little regard for the repercussion of their life style on themselves let alone the repercussions it had on others. In short, they didn't care.

Rom. 1:27
27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. NASB

This gives us a good picture of the angels who moved in on humanity, as well as the women who took them in, instead of human men. All were degenerate.

Jude now gets back to the people, and his warning of them, who would try to distract you and others away from Bible doctrine. These people and systems of philosophy or beliefs are not interested in your welfare or enlightenment, they are interested only in their self gratification.

First in succeeding in getting your attention focused on them (they are ego and approbation driven) and then second, in making you fail in life. It is really a game that evil plays - to seek out, and then to mislead, and then to destroy.

Politicians, professors, news media types, advertising, gossips and much, much more, are all types of those who would mislead or distract you away from God and doctrine. Anyone and everyone who promotes false principles and enticements of life are nothing more than trouble makers, and dreamers in an imaginary world of lies.

They reject truth first, and then authority second, and then legitimate expertise third. They see only themselves as the true experts of their own opinions. Forgetting that they too once were born of a woman, an infant to begin with, and totally void of wisdom at that time. All that they know was learned and came from others. They see no threat to their life style, and they have no fear of real truth when reality falls all around them.

2 Peter 2:8-10
9 then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment, 10 and especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority. Daring, self-willed, they do not tremble when they revile angelic majesties, NASB

Jude's third illustration, serves as an example of the threats that exist all around us and of what happens to those who turn away from God to follow their own physical natures.

These three examples reveal the inner attitudes of physical immorality, intellectual insubordination, and spiritual irreverence. As dreamers (anyone who rejects truth), they have unrealistic expectations in thinking their ways will bring satisfaction and fulfillment in their lives.

They reject the idea that the only possible outcome is their own destruction. And, they are so defiant in their thinking, that sooner or later God simply allows them to be consumed by their own thinking.

Titus 1:15
15 To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled. NASB

Rom. 1:24-25
24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, that their bodies might be dishonored among them. 25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. NASB
