Ephesians 2:22

22 In[en] whom[hos] ye[humeis] also[kai] are builded together[sunoikodomeo] for[eis] an habitation[katoiketerion] of God[theos] through[en] the Spirit.[pneuma]  KJV-Interlinear

22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit. NASB

Now here is the 'pièce de résistance.' This is a French term that refers to the best part of something. It can be thought of as the portion of something that defies common thought or convention, therefore making it unique and special and beyond comparison to anything or everything else. This conveys the sense that the thing being referred to is the most notable, the most outstanding, the most phenomenal thing imaginable.

And what is that thing? That we, believers in Christ, members of the family of God, are going to be His dwelling place, His permanent home, forever. This does not mean that we will live in the same city or neighborhood, but that God is going to indwell each and every believer, forever.

Builded together, 'sunoikodomeo,' means to become an integral part of a whole thing. Each part is mandatory and the thing being built cannot be a whole unless all of its parts are present. Even one missing part would mean the incompletion of the thing.

And that thing is the dwelling place of God, His chosen home, the home that He alone is constructing. That home is made up of all believers from throughout history.

Habitation, 'katoiketerion,' means a habitation, a dwelling, a place of permanent residence.

Through the spirit, is a reference to the Holy Spirit through whom our spiritual lives function. There is no spiritual life, when the Holy Spirit is not involved. Only believers possess the Holy Spirit.

People often ask if man cannot prevent sins now, how can they prevent themselves from sinning for all of eternity? And that is answered in part, in this verse.

The physical body and mind are weak and succumb to sins easily. Even the resurrection body cannot prevent the mental workings of the mind. But when you add Gods presence in a more formidable way, then since God is not able to sin and God is able to not sin, then those in whom He will dwell, will possess the ultimate self-control mechanism, over themselves.

Granted today we are all indwelled by all three members of the Trinity, but that is a more passive and restrictive role of God in our lives. In eternity, however, that passive role will be more apparent and interactive between God and each individual, and therefore there will never be any sin or evil, for all of eternity, and therefore no more sorrow, death, etc., for anyone.

So, in these last two verses, the plan for humanity is made clear. We are not going to continue in history indefinitely in order to dominate the stars. We are here as a part of Gods plan for building a family, a nation of believers, and for building a place of permanent residence for God, forever.
