15 Be on
guard against him yourself, for he vigorously opposed our teaching. NASB
Withstood, 'anthistemi,' means to stand against, oppose, resist, and it carries an aggressive connotation.
There are people out there, who will do their very best to ruin those who they believe are their enemies.
And so, when you encounter opposition toward truth, God, Christ, and Christianity in general, you need to be on your guard lest they do things that may be dangerous to you.
Those things could be as simple as malicious gossip, or accusations against you, or more aggressive or violent actions.
All evil is detrimental to life. All evil runs a course toward destruction. All evil is self-centered and selfish, and believes that it has every right to do whatever, whenever, wherever it wishes, with no restraints, with no accountability.
And oddly enough, when the Rapture occurs, and when the restraint against evil vanishes along with all of the believers, then evil will run rampant.
If with restraint, evil can be as bad as it is, then imagine how bad it will get, when all restraint is lifted in this world.
