1 Thessalonians 5:5
5 Ye [humeis] are [este] all [pas] the children [huios] of light, [phos] and [kai] the children [huios] of the day: [hemera] we are [esmen] not [ou] of the night, [nux] nor [oude] of darkness. [skotos] KJV-Interlinear
5 for you are all sons of light
and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; NASB
What you think is what
you are.You are the product, a descendant,
of your own thinking.
Your thinking is a
result of what you learn in life. And
what you learn is a result of your attitude and what you focus your attention
on in life.
Therefore, focus your
attention on God and the things of God, namely Bible doctrine, and your life
will be full of light, truth, or the substance with which you can see,
evaluate, and determine your life.
Focus your attention on
things that exclude God, and your life will be full of darkness, or the
inability to orient to, or make determinations, from life.
The children of light,
is a phrase meaning, the enlightened children of God. We simplify that and simply call them
spiritually mature, or folks who are advanced in their
spiritual life.They have the knowledge
and wisdom to figure things out, and not get caught off guard, while others,
immature believers or unbelievers, are lacking in their awareness of life
around them.
For most folks, the life
around them is simply that which they can see and do. It is their work or social life, their
hobbies, or their education, their planning for this thing or that, but all
within the context of activities in this life.
They exclude the bigger
picture of God, the spiritual life, Gods historical plan, the many details of
history unfolding around them, and how they all fit into the bigger puzzle.
Pauls context here is the Rapture, but his bigger
context is the events of life in general.
Those who possess knowledge of doctrine are not caught off guard when
life hits the fan.
Those who are weak spiritually
are the ones who cry, Why me? How can
a loving God ? Boo-hoo, etc, etc.
