You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
1 John 3:18-20
18 My [mou] little children [teknion], let us [agapao] not [me] love [agapao] in word [logos], neither [mede] in tongue [glossa]; but [alla] in deed [ergon] and [kai] in truth [aletheia]. 19 And [kai] hereby [en] [touto] we know [ginosko] that [hoti] we are [esmen] of [ek] the truth [aletheia], and [kai] shall assure [peitho] our [hemon] hearts [kardia] before [emprosthen] him [autos]. 20 For [hoti] if [ean] our [hemon] heart [kardia] condemn us [kataginosko], [hoti] God [theos] is [esti] greater [meizon] than our [hemon] heart [kardia], and [kai] knoweth [ginosko] all things [pas]. KJV-Interlinear 18 Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. 19 We shall know by this that we are of the truth, and shall assure our heart before Him, 20 in whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. NASB
Of all things in reality, you should fear God most, and the worldly things the least if at all. The world can do nothing for you and it certainly can bring trouble against you. But God who supports all things, can provide every possible thing for you, but if He turns His back against you, then there is no one and nothing that can help you. You will be totally at the mercy of oblivion, and in destruction there is never any mercy.
So, do not play games with God. Do not make lip service of your spiritual life in order to convince people only. People can do nothing for you.
2 Cor. 5:11
11 Therefore knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are made manifest to God; and I hope that we are made manifest also in your consciences. NASB
Regardless of your status in life, whether a billionaire or destitute, do not rely on the things of this world.
Commit your spiritual life to your daily life and that includes your deeds. Practice what you learn.
Boasting what you will or will not do in life is a display of arrogance. When trouble strikes, then you should not make bitter comments like, 'When things get better, I will do this or I will do that.' In a form of defiance against the trouble which is upon you. God can bring trouble and God can remove it in a blink of an eye. Jesus Christ controls history and every detail of history.
Lest you forget, you are living as a part of history. And, though you are small in this universe, God will not overlook you.
You have an opportunity to become tremendously wealthy, prosperous, and blessed both now and in eternity. Only you can prevent your success in this goal by being negative, or indifferent, or defiant toward Gods plan for your life.
Complying with Gods plan for your life will insure success. Don't throw it away by playing games before people, to impress people, or even to impress yourself in your own mind.
John makes it very clear here. Live the spiritual life, do not pretend it.
