26 These [tauta] things have I written
[grapho] unto you [humin] concerning [peri] them that
seduce [planao] you [humas].
27 But [kai] the anointing [chrisma] which [hos] ye [humeis] have received [lambano] of [apo] him [autos] abideth [meno] in [en] you [humin], and [kai] ye need [chreia] [echo] not [ou] that [hina] any man [tis] teach [didasko] you [humas]: but [alla] as [hos] the same [autos] anointing [chrisma] teacheth [didasko] you [humas] of [peri] all things [pas], and [kai] is [esti] truth [alethes], and [kai] is [esti] no [ou] lie [pseudos], and [kai] even as [kathos] it hath
taught [didasko] you [humas], ye shall abide [meno] in [en] him [autos]. KJV-Interlinear
26 I write
these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you.
27 But the
anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that
anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and
is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.
John writes these things so that you will understand, so that you will not be so easily deceived by the world.
There are a lot of things out in the world, a lot of opinions and philosophies and beliefs, so much so that it could make your head spin.
With so many opinions concerning God and the spiritual life, or the lack of them, or the alternatives to them, and with so much impossible to prove, because the spiritual is separate and apart from this physical world, it is easy for imposters and deceivers to thrive among a naïve world.
But there is one defense against the deceptions.
And that defense is knowledge of Bible doctrine.
John uses the word anointing to describe the spiritual function of the spiritual life.
Anointing is often times explained symbolically with the terms such as the anointing with oil, or the laying on of the hands.
Both of these phrases have been badly abused and misapplied by so many who think that they only need to put their hands on you or pour oil on you and the magic begins.
But what these things do, simply portray the residence of God inside of you. And with respect to your learning doctrine, they portray the Holy Spirit’s function within your learning process.
This only teaches that God has a method or a process for functioning within the spiritual life, and a process for learning doctrine, and growing up.
In the past, Kings were anointed, priests were anointed, and so forth. This ritual teaches Gods role in the approval process of their appointment.
Of course through the centuries, these things have been abused, using God as the justification of this or that human process.
But the important thing to remember is that, even though many Biblical principles, although misapplied, are still there to teach the dominion and authority of God.
One simply needs to be a Christian, first of all, and then a student of Gods word, second, in order to understand these things.
So, your anointing, or rather, you are being anointed and continually anointed through your daily study of Bible doctrine. Furthermore, your entire spiritual life, when you are in fellowship, is likewise an anointing process of sorts, in that while in fellowship, you are within Gods relationship sphere, and functioning within Gods will and thus within and conforming to, the spiritual process that God designed and mandates for us. And, more important, though it should seem obvious, it is God who is in control of that whole process.
This eliminates anything or any other method for functioning in some other defined spiritual process, such as works or things that other belief systems teach.
Therefore, your anointing process is your instructional and learning process, such that what you learn, abides in you, or becomes resident within your soul.
Once you learn doctrine, then you have no further need for anyone, outside of Gods sphere, to teach you. Why? Because you will then have discernment and not be so easily deceived.
Bible doctrine in your soul, is your one and only and best defense against the false things of this world.
Bible doctrine in your soul is your truthful and legitimate and meaningful and real relationship connection and builder with God.
There is no other way, by which you can achieve a deep relationship with God.
There is only one God, and only one spiritual process, and one defense against deception. And that is achieved through your daily study of the Word of God, while in fellowship, and from and through legitimate instruction.
