Memorial Day 2010
DailyBibleStudy.Org
Immediately after the American Civil War, in 1865,
several communities celebrated a day of remembrance for those who died during
that brutal war. Initially called
Decoration Day, the holiday soon became a national holiday of remembrance in
observance of honor and the memory of all of the men and women who have died in
all of the wars throughout our history.
Now called Memorial Day, and celebrated on the last
Monday in May, of each year, flags are properly flown at half-mast, along with
other activities, both public and private, in remembrance of those who have given
their lives, so that freedom and liberty might continue for us all.
They did not die in vain, nor were they forgotten
by God.
In the Bible, God has set aside His own honor and
remembrance in the form of a Crown, which is eternal.
Of the five crowns of reward described in the Bible,
the Crown of Life is meant for those who die and are denied a full life, due to
the circumstances that are beyond their own control.
Far too often the young are called upon to lead the
fight for freedom against evils and terrorism that reign upon the earth. Caring nothing for the welfare of others,
evil has to be met with force, in order to quell it and prevent its destructive
forces from ruining the lives of others.
In times of trouble, nations rise up and call upon the
vigor of their youth, to stand against those who would destroy freedom for us
all.
In many cases the ultimate sacrifice is made in
defense of our freedom, the young are taken from us without the benefit of
living their own lives to the fullest extent possible, that the rest of us
share.
However, God does not turn His head away from those
who serve and die at the nations request.
But instead God gives honor to those fallen, to a
much greater extent than any of us are capable of, with the award of the Crown
of Life. This award is not limited to
those in the military, for certainly there are many, both young and old, who
face unfair circumstances that this world places upon them, and are taken from
life.
Under normal circumstances, every person is given
the opportunity to believe in Christ, to grow up in their spiritual life, and
to become productive and prepared, ready for their evaluation before Christ, at
the Judgment Seat, where rewards and blessings above and beyond the norm, are
presented to those who have been faithful and obedient to the mandates
prescribed throughout the Bible.
Those believers who have been taken prematurely from
life, are to some extent denied that opportunity of growth and preparation, and
are thus given the Crown of Life.
This crown is not a mere token, but a
representation of a gift of blessings of real, actual, and eternal rewards
given by God, to them, such that anything lost to life s experiences, will be
thoroughly replaced by Gods grace and remembrance of their sacrifice.
Therefore, as we take one day out of the year to
celebrate and remember those who have given the maximum, so that we might
remain free, then remember too, that they did not die in vain. Their sacrifice has given untold myriads of
people the gift of freedom and life, and the opportunity to advance in their spiritual
lives, and that they have been and are always in Gods memory and possession, for
greater blessings beyond anything that this world or life could possibly offer.
This Bible study is dedicated to your well being. You have only to seize hold and make it your
own so that you can realize and one day enjoy the fullness of Gods promise and
blessing for you, and to remember those who have gone before you.
I deeply thank you and all who have made this study
possible. And to those who continue to
support it and thereby make it possible and available to many around the globe,
who are not so lucky in this world. From
my family to yours, I wish you the very best during this holiday, and happiness
in Christ that is not available anywhere else.
And now to Him who is able to keep you from
falling, and to present you without blemish, before the presence of His glory,
with exceeding joy. To the only wise God
and savior, even Jesus Christ our Lord.
To whom be glory and majesty, dominion and
power, before time, now, and forevermore.
Believe it, for it is so.
