Lesson # Exodus 15:11-12
Study Material - Exodus 15:11-12
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Ex. 15:11-12
11 'Who is like Thee among the gods, O LORD? Who is like Thee, majestic in holiness, Awesome in praises, working wonders? 12 'Thou didst stretch out Thy right hand, The earth swallowed them.
Neither length, no height, nor depth, none of these can be matched into that which God Possesses. Who is like God? Or what is like God?
We have visited the five historical theologies of history, on several occasions, and have seen how the four (those other than Christianity) are distortions or out right rejections of God.
Judaism looks to a single god but rejects The God, Jesus Christ, 'El Shaddai', 'I Am', 'Jehovah', and attempts to superimpose the Levitical heritage over that of Gods plan for man kind. They see themselves as the chosen race descending down through Abraham via physical relationship and not a spiritual heritage. A rejection of Christ, the deliverer, is this distortion. There is no need for a deliverer, but there is a need for a leader to establish 'their' dynasty in politics, theology, etc. And to follow their interpretation of what the Torah (the first five books of the Bible) intends. They are still waiting on the Messiah.
Islam, looks to a god of sorts but rejects The God of the Bible, as well as Jesus Christ. Islam, distorts the Bible and attempts to superimpose various special privileges on certain people (women certainly excluded - they make up the source of virgins in eternity for the male population). Hummm, I wonder what happens when they run out of virgins??? Anyway, Islam originated from most of the writings of Moses, of the sayings of Jesus, from the Psalms, and a lot of the personal observations of Muhammad. He did a lot of dream interpretation. Kind of like Usama these days. A rejection of God and Jesus Christ, replacing Allah and Muhammad as his prophet in their place. They follow five basic principles: Allah is god and Muhammad is his prophet; Pray five times daily facing Mecca; Give alms (money); Fast during the month of Ramadan; And make a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in a life time. Note that these look to man balancing good deeds against bad deeds and that outcome determines ones destiny in paradise or hell. There is no relationship with God in the Biblical sense. Just man overcoming his own flaws. Flaws are, by the way, subject to personal interpretation
Buddhism is really an offshoot of Hinduism. It does not have a god per se, but looks to a higher level of enlightenment. Its goal is to eliminate all desires and cravings in the life, and by doing thus, escape all suffering. Man is seen as being able to rise above his basic lusts and so forth. Note that this is an attempt to override the sin nature in all of us. Man cannot purchase himself out of the slave market of sin. A rejection of Gods work, and replacing it with mans work in gaining victory over ones own sin nature is the distortion here.
Hinduism is a combination of many sects. Here god is the absolute and everyone and everything is a part of god. That is, one with the universe, sort of stuff. People are god but are unaware of it (the force be with you), is the concept here. People are reincarnated to higher levels and eventually reach the ultimate and highest level of absorption or union with Brahman, the name of the Hindu god. A rejection of the unique separateness of God and man making them both as equals, distorting the indwelling concepts of God in man and making mans volition his ultimate self determination rather than faith. This rejects the uniqueness of mans soul life, resurrection, and so forth.
So each of these religions have taken a portion of Biblical concepts and have distorted them in some unique way. Of course there are other religions of ore recent times - Baha'i, Transcendentalism, New Age, Scientology, and so forth. Each of these too, distort various Biblical concepts. Of course there has always been the worship of animals, celestial bodies, etc. If you throw in the philosophies of technology, evolution and such then you have a broad picture of a general attitude rejecting God and His existence as the Bible portrays it, and portraying man as basically on his own empowered to save himself by simply rising above his own flaws.
'Who is like Thee?' These religions all imply the ability of man to overcome his own situation without the help of God. They do not address the Holiness of God (righteousness as sinless perfection, and justice as absolute intolerance and punishment of sin). They do not recognize the essence of God, those ten categories which we have studied - omnipotence, omniscience, immutability, veracity, omnipresence, love, sovereignty, righteousness, justice, and eternal life. None of these characteristics can be matched in these other philosophies. They certainly do not consider the remaining two corner stones of Gods policy - faithfulness and love which make up Gods grace policy toward mankind.
What wonders have come out of these various beliefs? What works of miracles have they accomplished? What beginnings, what have they sustained through history? Nothing! Only by means of mans own hands and invention have these beliefs accomplished their deceptions over their own inventors.
God is a living individual (Father, Son, and Spirit), a living spirit, not simply a concept or a convenient crutch. God interacts with man (Jesus Christ). God is real, and the source of all that is. He sustains all that is. And He controls history (He reached out with his right hand and destroyed the Egyptians). Their gods did nothing to save them. The false gods of history cannot hear, nor speak, nor think. They simply do not exist. Attitudes of apathy toward God, replacing God with an attitude of 'work hard to get ahead', 'life is what you make it into', 'hustle to get ahead', 'know the right people', 'get the right connections' sort of attitude will lead the person down the path of doom as well. Fool yourself by being negative, and a fool you are indeed.
Today most people in this country are not into these various religions. Our greatest enemy is our negative attitude toward God, or our failure in taking the Bible seriously. We tend to look at life in a practical sense. Live in a good neighborhood, have a good occupation, gain a good retirement, go to church (well sometimes, but at least on holidays), go to heaven and meet Peter. And that is the greatest loss of potential that can occur in ones life. That is, in the life of the believer in Christ. The unbeliever simply loses everything.
'Who is like Thee?' There is no replacement for God. There is no replacement for Jesus Christ. There is no replacement for Bible doctrine. Look around the world. Where there is strong Christianity there is strong prosperity, innovation, freedom and so forth. Where these other religious beliefs exist there is poverty, lack of innovation, lack of freedom.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
