You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Zeph. 3:3-4 3 Her princes [sar] within [qereb] her are roaring [sha'ag] lions [ariy] ; her judges [shaphat] are evening [ereb] wolves [za'eb] ; they gnaw not the bones [garam] till the morrow [boqer] . 4 Her prophets [nabiy] are light [pachaz] and treacherous [bogadowth] persons [enowsh] : her priests [kohen] have polluted [chalal] the sanctuary [qodesh] , they have done violence [chamac] to the law [towrah] . KJV-Interlinear 3 Her princes within her are roaring lions, Her judges are wolves at evening; They leave nothing for the morning. 4 Her prophets are reckless, treacherous men; Her priests have profaned the sanctuary. They have done violence to the law. NASB
The princes are the leadership of the nation. They are those to whom God has given the responsibility of governing and looking out for the rights and liberties of the people of the nation.
The judges are those who are sworn to uphold the law. To see to it that no one is above the law, and that all receive equal protection and justice under the law.
The prophets are the wise of the nation. Those folks to whom God has granted an IQ so that they can interact on behalf of the vast majority of the people. They are the counselors, the teachers, the professors, the news media, the parents in behalf of their children, and so forth.
The priests are those who are bound by God to disseminate the Word of God, to teach all peoples the spiritual things of God and to bring all people to an understanding of the scriptures so that they can grow up in their spiritual life.
The people in authority and power fail and thus have no regard for truth and righteousness. Their arrogant roar is like that of a wild beast. Instead of looking out for the best interests of the nations citizens, the princes look out for themselves. They politicize everything. They ridicule the opposition in order to seize power for themselves. Leadership is not the honor of leading a nation but an ego trip for ones resume'. Leaders will say and/or do anything in order to get themselves elected. Other would be leaders around the world will inflict violence in order to seize power when they have no rightful claim to it. Their only thought is for their own lust for power and wealth and control over the masses.
The judges, who should be the protectors of the injured innocent, are evening wolves, as described in our passage. Evening wolves has another meaning and that is they are yellow. This is a description of liberal judges who do not uphold the law, but try to create the law as they see fit, based on their philosophical views rather than on legislated law.
Remember that we are studying the times of the Tribulation, but these principles can be applied in our current time and probably in any generation in history to some extent. At least somewhere in the world these failures apply.
The prophets, who pretend to be special messengers of wisdom, are light and treacherous people, fanciful, and of a vain imagination, frothy and airy, and of a loose conversation, men of no consistency within themselves, in whom no one can put any confidence. They lie and shade and distort truth. They report facts with skewed interpretations. They promote philosophies that benefit themselves, or promote themselves. The perceive themselves as wise, but take no actions themselves. They make no decisions themselves. They take no leadership postures themselves. But they elevate themselves as being wise critics, usually in hindsight. They are quarterbacks who have never been on the playing field.
Last, the priests are supposed to be the shining lights on the hill, teaching Gods Word in all of its glory. But these too have failed in that they have set aside the scriptures and have replaced them with their own church doctrine or philosophical views. Their rituals and traditions are more important than teaching the word of God, daily and accurately. Politics and social schedules are more important. Not offending anyone is high on the list of their values. Being gracious to all faiths, even when those other faiths are totally evil, is part of the appeasement view of the liberal priest. Accepting all sorts of beliefs, accepting homosexual priests, dishonorable priests engaged in criminal activity is tolerated, riding both sides of the political fence to be liked by all are among the attitudes of these false priests. Gods Word is compromised so that more ideas can become acceptable, and so the scriptures become a footnote to the worship of the citizens of the nation.
Pursuit of worldly ideas becomes the priority. The lust for power, social acceptability, worldly success, personal pleasure become the ultimate driving goals.
From the top down, all peoples then lose sight of God and doctrine. Doing violence to the law is the ultimate destination and result of people who maintain their indifference toward truth. Whatever it is you think is acceptable because it hurts no one (as you perceive it), is a lie, and you only fool yourself.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
