Zeph. 1:18
Lesson # Zeph. 1:18
Study Material - Zeph. 1:18
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Zeph. 1:18 18 Neither their silver [keceph] nor their gold [zahab] shall be able [yakol] to deliver [natsal] them in the day [yowm] of the LORD'S [Yahovah] wrath [ebrah] ; but the whole land [erets] shall be devoured ['akal] by the fire [esh] of his jealousy [qin'ah] : for he shall make [asah] even a speedy [bahal] riddance [kalah] of all them that dwell [yashab] in the land [erets] . KJV-Interlinear 18 Neither their silver nor their gold Will be able to deliver them On the day of the Lord's wrath; And all the earth will be devoured In the fire of His jealousy, For He will make a complete end, Indeed a terrifying one, Of all the inhabitants of the earth. NASB
There are two opposing forces that compete to rule the world. The Law of the Jungle and the Divine Establishment Laws issued by God. These are parallel forces which wrestle for supremacy in the world.
The jungle uses force, coercion, violence, deception, the strong rule and the weak get squashed. Those who are connected get better treatment than those who are ostracized by society. We have all seen and read about people who have crossed the line of integrity and gotten away with it. There are stories of the rich who can buy their way through the courts, there are the poor who even if innocent get screwed in life.
There are tyrants of nations, bullies of cities, and thugs who thumb their noses at society and God (even though they probably don't think much about God, per se. Life in the jungle is never fair. It has biases, prejudices, flaws up the gazoo, yet people will pursue their life within its rules, in order to get ahead. Since lightening doesn't strike them immediately, they all feel that they are getting away with whatever it is they do. To honest folks, this all seems wrong. Why should evil get the things in life that they have, and honest people just seem to barely get by in life. Not fair!
Not to worry. God is patient, and God gives everyone their time to make their practices in life clear to all. In the end they all will get their due.
There are two types of certain destruction. There is the personal destruction which will come to every individual in life - at the end of their life, whenever that might be. And then there are regional or worldwide destructions wherein lots of folks will get their opportunity to meet Jesus.
Gods destruction on that day is unavoidable and universal and certain. Against it there is no defense. Look back in history just one hundred and twenty years. Everyone who has ever lived prior to that time are now dead and gone. Billions of people who have been born, lived their life, and are now dead. You'll never meet anyone who was born in the 18th century. Never.
But the arrogance of people still runs fast through society even though everyone drives past a church, a cemetery, one of those little crosses along the road, which are certain reminders that everyone's end will come sooner or later.
From judgment, there is no escape. You cannot save up enough money to buy your way out of it. You cannot get enough friends to escape your just end. You cannot earn or take enough titles to keep you from the moment of your death. You cannot run or hide or conceal yourself from God to escape the end of your life.
When the breath leaves your body, you will have no more control over yourself. Your body will lay there lifeless and helpless. Just as you were helpless when you came into this world and your momma had to change your diapers, so too, someone else will have to make arrangements for your body when you check out of this world.
Gods work is complete. Gods work is thorough.
Nah. 1:8
8 But with an overflowing flood He will make a complete end of its site, And will pursue His enemies into darkness. NASB
Isa. 10:23
23 For a complete destruction, one that is decreed, the Lord GOD of hosts will execute in the midst of the whole land. NASB
Zephaniah doesn't pull any punches. The life of those who would pursue evil (anyone ignoring God) will be worthless, as dung, as dust, and their end will come with terror and certainty. No one will get away with anything. Life on this earth is not the sum total of your existence. But life in eternity is where you will live the bulk of your existence.
There is comfort in knowing that the evil will get their due. That means that God is in certain control, and that His promises to those who do pursue Him in their spiritual life, will be far better off in eternity despite the many inconveniences we might encounter in this life.
Life here on earth is not going to be an easy one. The recent death of President Reagan demonstrates this. He came from a small town and went through the Hollywood scene and up to the Presidency of the United States. He was a man of tremendous faith. Yet he succumbed to physical flaws from which there are no medical answers.
Such is life for us all. No matter who we are, or what we might accomplish in life, we all still live in this devils world and through that we just have to persist in our spiritual studies until God calls us home. We will all face difficulties of one sort or another, but no matter. Our life is not of and for this world alone, it is for God and eternity. We live here only to prepare ourselves for the better life in the next life. God is gracious enough to give us all time and room to accomplish this. For those who recognize it, then there will be a tremendous life and tremendous reward for their patience, in the future. For those who could care less about all of this, then there are the words of Zephaniah.
For He will make a complete end, Indeed a terrifying one, Of all the (evil inhabitants - defined back in verse 6) inhabitants of the earth.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
