Lesson # Zeph. 1:15-16 Study Material - Zeph. 1:15-16 You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Zeph. 1:15-16 15 That day [yowm] is a day [yowm] of wrath [ebrah] , a day [yowm] of trouble [tsarah] and distress [matsuwqah] , a day [yowm] of wasteness [show] and desolation [mashow'ah] , a day [yowm] of darkness [choshek] and gloominess [aphelah] , a day [yowm] of clouds [anan] and thick darkness [araphel] , 16 A day [yowm] of the trumpet [showphar] and alarm [taruw`ah] against the fenced [batsar] cities [iyr] , and against the high [gaboahh] towers [pinnah] . KJV-Interlinear 15 A day of wrath is that day, A day of trouble and distress, A day of destruction and desolation, A day of darkness and gloom, A day of clouds and thick darkness, 16 A day of trumpet and battle cry, Against the fortified cities And the high corner towers. NASB Now Zephaniah gives a frank description of the day of judgment. Not the final judgment of human history. Not the evaluation believers will receive when standing before Christ in heaven. This is the final wrath which God will impose on negative people (negative with respect to God, His word, His truth, His Son and only savior, His only defined spiritual life). Once God has given every person adequate time to demonstrate their attitude and freely chosen pattern of life, and after more than enough warnings, and information to clearly indicate that a wrong path is going to bring 'bad' things into ones life - especially at the end of ones life, then after all of this, God will unleash the most brutal and horrendous discipline and judgment upon all negative peoples. In the individuals life, this happens (bad judgment) - potentially - to everyone. In human history, there will be a final generation which will be the most ruthless, most negative, most brutal, most defiant generation (at the end of the Tribulation) and that will be the most horrifying period of time in all of human history. Why the warnings? Because, as we have studied over and over again, there is a huge (very huge) treasure at stake. Reject Christ and Hell is waiting for you. That is definitely not good. For believers, there is a huge pot of blessings that might be lost if the believer does not pursue their spiritual life. This is a description of the perfection of Gods wrath. There will be trouble and distress like never before experienced by anyone. Certainly each one of us when we face death, then we face it alone. It is unique to each of us. Being prepared spiritually is the only good way to come face to face with death. It then would become a celebration within our own life. But for those who have ignored their spiritual life, death will be horrendous from within their own soul. Rom. 2:8 8 but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation. NASB None of this dramatic death scene stuff you see on TV and in the movies. Stop the film and they all get back up. But in real life, you will not get back up once you die. The land will be turned in to a wilderness and that land in your own soul. Your soul is where you live. That is the place of residence for your human life Lam. 3:44 44 Thou hast covered Thyself with a cloud So that no prayer can pass through. NASB The thick clouds is not just a temporary storm that will pass, but a permanent disconnection from God in the final moments of the negative persons life. Sine you live your life outside of your spiritual realm (out of fellowship), then God will not hear your prayers, your cries, your distress. Live your life without God and you choose to live as the mountain man lives in isolation. But this is really a total isolation with no one to look to for help. Even mountain men had access to humanity from time to time. When the alarm in your life sounds, then that is the frantic signal that the end which has been warned about, over and over, has finally arrived. There is no escape. There is no fortress to run too. There is no hiding place. No source of encouragement. Only the threatening sounds of destruction, of terror, of pain, of suffering, of finality. When it is so easy (through a daily Bible study) to have a spiritual life and escape the judgment of God and be the recipient of tremendous blessings, then why would anyone simply ignore it all and choose to have a miserable life? Why?
