Psa. 118:24-29
24 This is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it. 25 O LORD, do save, we beseech Thee; O LORD, we beseech Thee, do send prosperity! 26 Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD; We have blessed you from the house of the LORD. 27 The LORD is God, and He has given us light; Bind the festival sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar. 28 Thou art my God, and I give thanks to Thee; Thou art my God, I extol Thee. 29 Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting. NAS
The day of sacrifice is the day which God appointed since eternity past. There is but one day of sacrifice, though many sacrifices were made throughout the centuries, those were merely teaching aids, shadows, pointing to the reality of the Cross, the one and only sacrifice which made available salvation to all of mankind.
What is salvation? Permanent separation from the trap of sin and death. Without salvation we would be trapped in the clutches of sin and death which would keep us permanently separated from God, thus casting us in the Lake of Fire - not a good place. With salvation, which was purchased for us by Christ on the Cross, then we have the opportunity to accept Gods work by believing in the Son of God and in His work, and thus receiving eternal life or the privilege of living with God for all of eternity in heaven - a very good place to be.
The Lord (Son of God) is God. There is no other God to replace Him. He provided us with salvation. He also provided us with the prosperity that comes with salvation, and there is a great deal of that waiting for us in time and in eternity through our spiritual growth to spiritual maturity.
The binding of the cords is the binding of the sacrificial lamb on the alter. This is required in order to complete the sacrifice. Jesus Christ was humiliated (the corner stone rejected), and killed on the Cross. But before physical death could overtake Him, He paid the price for our sins during those three hours on the Cross, shrouded in a complete and total supernatural darkness during the height of the afternoon sun. This is the first of two supernatural darknesses that will occur in history. The second will occur worldwide immediately before the second advent. That one will bring terror to all of the world, then the light of Christ followed by 'clouds' (we are those clouds - the Royal Family) riding white war horses, will fill the entire earth and all will see His coming.
But first comes humility, then comes His glorification (the corner stone rejected, becomes the chief corner stone of all of history).
Our attitude should be one of extreme thanks and worship of the One who has given us so much - life, the opportunity to advance in our spiritual life, the opportunity to have so much in all of eternity.
Instead what attitude is generally expressed toward God and Christ? Ho hum indifference, replacement of His standards with our selfish standards, our personal biases verses His extremely tolerant policy of grace. If people really knew the blessings that are available to each person, if they knew or took the time to find out the tremendous blessings that await them in time and in eternity, then one would think that people would be all over themselves trying to learn and grow up in their spiritual life. But that is not the case.
Just as we see many illustrations of prosperity and poverty here on earth, so too will be the differences between those who pursue their spiritual lives and those who will not. I read an article once that listed the number of millionaires at just over ten million people in this world of six billion. Pretty small percentage. If you count only the billionaires, then the number falls dramatically into the thousands. Billions are in the middle income bracket and billions are in the poverty bracket.
So if you were to rate your spiritual life in these terms, then where would you be? Billionaire? Millionaire? Just getting by perhaps? Or maybe not interested at all (spiritual poverty). And whose fault is it if you are not in the higher up classifications? What is your attitude toward Bible study?
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
