Psa. 118:22-23
22 The stone [eben] which the builders [banah] refused [maac] is become the head [roh] stone of the corner [pinnah] .
23 This is the LORD'S [Yahovah] doing; it is marvellous [pala] in our eyes [ayin] . KJV-Interlinear
Psa. 118:22-23
22 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief corner stone. 23 This is the Lord's doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. NAS
David wrote this psalm over 1000 years before the time of Christ's first advent. It has been read over and over again by the priesthood. During the course of those 1000 years, as the Levitical Priesthood was slowly transformed into the religion named Judaism, by the volumes and volumes of legalistic regulations, which slowly became the center piece of the theology that existed in Jesus' day, then simultaneously, the true principles taught by the scriptures were shuffled off into obscurity.
The corner stone, is that principle part from which all other parts in a constructed building are arrayed. If the corner stone is defective in any way, then the whole building becomes defective and requires correction after correction in order to get it back into some semblance of order.
Jesus Christ is the correct corner stone of all of history, of our spiritual life, and of our relationship with God. Since ancient times, there have been but four great religions - Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, and Islam. Sure there were many varied gods and philosophies of idol worship, and even today there are many varied theologies which began in just the last couple of centuries, as well as cults that come and go. But these are generally flashes in the pan and are not as great an evil threat to humanity as are the four great religions I mentioned above. Do not get me wrong. All false religious beliefs are evil and detrimental to humanity, and all of these mentioned are false theologies.
There is but one true theology and that is of course Christianity, which is not a religion, but a relationship with God, through Jesus Christ. By the way, Christianity did not begin at the first advent of Christ, but has existed since eternity past. Jesus (Joshua in the Hebrew), walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden. Abraham believed in the Son of God (Joshua). Moses believed in the Son of God (Joshua). They all looked to the Messiah (which is a Hebrew word). What is the Greek word for Messiah? Christ.
So Christianity may be a convenient term for or generation since we all look backwards historically in time to the Cross, but those who preceded the Cross had to look forward to the promise of the Cross. We all believe in the same Son of God.
Jesus Christ is the center, the focal point of history. Around Him, all things revolve. Isn't it interesting that we revolve around the sun in our solar system. Even in the arrangement of the planets God has given us a very simple and obvious representation of what our spiritual life (our whole life in fact) should be focused on.
Those who reject Christ reject the corner stone of life. They can replace Him with only something that is defective. There is nothing else that is prefect as God is perfect, in all of creation. Mans defined theologies and imagined philosophies, are all defective and therefore cannot help anyone into eternity.
There are but five truths in life. First, there is a God, only one God. Second He is the God if the Bible. Third we all have been born into this life without any input or assistance from ourselves. Fourth, we will all die from this life sooner or later and we have no control over the circumstances of our death. Fifth, there is a destiny - heaven or hell. Ok, you can add more truths to this list, but these are the basics. We can change none of these. We cannot redefine God. We cannot redefine our existence. We cannot create a third or fourth option for eternity.
So what is at stake? Our life in this world, and our life in eternity. This creation is held together by a glue. God is that glue. If we reject God (Jesus Christ), then we reject the glue that holds all things together. If there is no glue in our life, then we are no better off than wood pulp against a hurricane. We would fly off in every direction, with no control whatsoever in our life. So life is, without God in it.
The only grand and marvelous thing in history is Jesus Christ and what He has done for each one of us. The only truly sad thing in history is the soul of a person who rejects Christ, and by so doing condemns himself to eternal oblivion. We have already studied the Lake of Fire, and it is an extremely terrifying place.
In life there are but two questions which must be addressed by each one of us. The first, 'What do you think of Jesus Christ?' Believe of not believe. To believe in Him means eternity in heaven. To reject Him means eternity in hell.
Once one believes in Christ, then there is a second set of questions. 'What do you think of Bible doctrine?' This is a daily set of decisions we make throughout our life. To be positive and to pursue our study in Gods Word, then we grow up spiritually and advance into tremendous prosperity both in time and in eternity. In time we gain as we advance toward spiritual maturity. We gain as we become more and more stable in our daily lives. In eternity, we gain by qualifying for those 'beyond imagination' blessings which are reserved only for mature believers.
If we choose to reject Bible study, or try to modify it in our life, or are just indifferent, then we are setting our self up for Gods discipline in time, and for loss of those 'beyond imagination' blessings reserved only for mature believers, in eternity. There is a great deal at stake. Each of us just has to make up our mind as to which direction we will travel in life.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
