Psa. 118:5-9

Lesson # Psa. 118:5-9
Study Material - Psa. 118:5-9

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Psa. 118:5-9

5 I called [qara] upon the LORD [Yahh] in distress [metsar] : the LORD [Yahh] answered [anah] me, and set me in a large place [merchab] .
6 The LORD [Yahovah] is on my side; I will not fear [yare] : what can [asah] man [adam] do [asah] unto me?
7 The LORD [Yahovah] taketh my part with them that help [azar] me: therefore shall I see [raah] my desire upon them that hate [sane] me.
8 It is better [towb] to trust [chacah] in the LORD [Yahovah] than to put confidence [batach] in man [adam] .
9 It is better [towb] to trust [chacah] in the LORD [Yahovah] than to put confidence [batach] in princes [nadiyb] . KJV-Interlinear

Psa. 118:5-9

5 From my distress I called upon the LORD; The LORD answered me and set me in a large place. 6 The LORD is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me? 7 The LORD is for me among those who help me; Therefore I shall look with satisfaction on those who hate me. 8 It is better to take refuge in the LORD Than to trust in man. 9 It is better to take refuge in the LORD Than to trust in princes. NAS

Mankind is in distress by merely being born into this world. We are saturated with the sin nature therefore, incapable to any form of perfection in life. Remember that perfection only comes from that which God has defined. Also, we are in constant exposure to death. None of us can know or even foresee the moment our death, or even the circumstances. We might live to a ripe old age and die in our sleep, or we might slip on the pavement and crack our head wide open and check out of this life right then and there. Death can come fast, or it can consume us over a long period of time. Either way, we have no control.

The Pharisees thought that by living in accordance with their regulated life style, that they might achieve a plane of existence which God would approve. They came up with all manner of rules and guidelines which eventually became a burden on people, then exceptions were invented in order to ease the burdens of regulations that were impossible to abide by in life.

Today we all face burdens, and pressures. This is the devils world. We have to work for a living. We have bills. We are taxed up the ying-yang. We cannot even build on our own property without horrendous and restrictive and burdensome regulations and fees. People in our social life give us problems. People in our work places give us problems. Family members are a cause of problems. Relationships we fall in and out of are sources of problems. Our physical condition is a source of problems in our life.

In David's day, he had internal political problems, family problems, and Israel was surrounded with nations that wanted them all dead.

Is there relief to all of this? Yes. God has a very large room where peace and prosperity exist. We call it the sphere of fellowship. David did not go to the Temple (it did not exist). He did not go to a large room in the Palace. He did not go to any physical place on earth where He could find peace and distance from his problems. He went into his own soul. He confessed his sins to God the Father, entered into fellowship, and there he found peace. But peace does not exist unless there is some structure in the soul to support it.

Before one can find that peace you have to build up a structure of Bible doctrine in your soul, which becomes the framework within your soul of a Temple, palace, mansion, or whatever you wish to call it, within your soul. Then you have to furnish it with gold, silver, and precious stones (results of production), and you do that by applying Bible doctrine to your daily life (the actual production of your soul) and in so doing, you build up or furnish your palace. A well furnished and well decorated palace is much more comfortable to live in than an empty skeleton or shell of a home.

The well furnished home in the soul - the believer who has lots of production from His spiritual life. The poorly furnished or empty home - the believer who lacks a spiritual life.

This is the large room in which you can retreat, or actually live in, in order to escape the turmoil of this world.

If we are consistent in our spiritual life, then God is on our side, because we have conformed to Gods position in life. With God on our side then we will prosper throughout life regardless of our physical circumstances. What can the world do against us? Nothing. The world will throw at us all manner of problems - medical, financial, social, whatever, but we are strong by virtue of our spiritual strength through our spiritual growth. Will we have zero problems in this life? No. This is the devils world. This is a world filled with people with sin natures. People with sin natures will be mean to you, cheat you, gossip against you, try to make you feel guilty, try to take advantage of you. That's life. You're not going to be transported to fairy land.

If you try to make your life better by 'fitting in' with society, by becoming a part of the 'group,' then you are in for bad news. If you think you can make your life better by hustling more than the other person, then you are in for great disappointment. Solomon puts it well 'All is vanity.' It is far better to orient to God and then let Him guide you through life with doctrine in your soul, than to try to define life on your own.

The people of this world, the leadership of this world are never going to be as good as that which God has provided through the spiritual life. There will never be a social life, a business life, a personal life that will satisfy all of your needs. Without the capacity for life which Bible doctrine in the soul provides, there will only be an emptiness, and a constant dissatisfaction.

In God there is satisfaction. And because there are problems which will exist in your life, then that provides you with the opportunity to apply Bible doctrine in your life and see for yourself just what God has provided. Without problems you would never have the opportunity to discover Gods grace provisions. David looks at those who despise him, with satisfaction. They provide him with his spiritual experience opportunities.

You can always look at your problems and become depressed. That will never solve any of them. Or, you can look at your problems as an opportunity to advance in your spiritual life. You can apply the doctrines you have learned. 'Stand fast, and watch the deliverance of the Lord.' Ever wonder exactly what that meant in your life?

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
