Psa. 110:5-7
5 The Lord is at Thy right hand; He will shatter kings in the day of His wrath. 6 He will judge among the nations, He will fill them with corpses, He will shatter the chief men over a broad country. 7 He will drink from the brook by the wayside; Therefore He will lift up His head. NAS
The Lord is at the right hand of the Father in heaven at present. There is an appointed 'day of wrath.' It is a certain date, set in eternity past, and it will occur on schedule, and precisely on time.
We can be involved in our day to day 8 to 5 jobs. We can be preoccupied with our vacation plans, our retirement plans, our weekend social schedule, our evening TV routine, or whatever. But there is a history, and an angelic conflict that is occurring all around us even though we do not see it, and even though most people are oblivious to it, or just do not believe it.
But all will come to an end for human history regardless of our attitude for or against God. Just as in our individual lives, there will be an end which we call physical death, this should convince us that we are subject to a greater power. And over that greater power we have no control. So the day is set. We do not know it, but it will occur. God has made His solemn oath and He will not change it.
When it does come, then it will not be a pretty picture. The description here is of corpses, not just here and there as one might find scattered on a battle field, but there will be corpses everywhere. One will not be able to walk without stepping on bodies. The defiance toward God will be so extensive world wide that Christ will pursue relentlessly, pausing just briefly for a drink of water, as a soldier on an intense mission might pause and then move on in hot pursuit of a ruthless enemy on the run. And without stopping until the mission is completely accomplished.
So this is the description of that day of wrath, but it has to be combined with the shaping of the nations into a footstool for the feet of Christ. History then is filled with relentless activity. We often look around from day to day and wonder just what is happening in our life or even in the world, but here is the answer.
With a fury and barely a pause which one can scarcely detect, history is being formed. We cannot see it, but here we have the promise, that nothing is arbitrary, nor is life ever placed on hold for no reason. God is very patient, but He is also pursuing a very detailed divine plan for history.
We have already seen in Revelation that the arm of Christ is on the lever of history. The muscles flexed as with a steel worker straining at his work. But here it is Christ's arm on the lever with an intense strain, muscles bulging, sweat running from the intensity of the wait, and when the moment comes then He will throw that switch and the next levels of activity in history will occur. This is all descriptive representation of course and I add a little description for effect, but the concept is that at any moment God can take your life. At any moment God can rapture the church away from this earth. Then the next phase of history for those who are left behind will begin.
But here we are looking at the Second Advent, because the time between the First Advent and the Second is a silent time period and was not revealed in the Old Testament.
God has promised, and anyone who hears His words, is given fair warning. There is a historical time table. Therefore we should listen and learn and grow up spiritually. Don't be superficial and get offended by little things in life, for those who are indifferent, those who reject Gods warnings and words, those who think they know better, will sooner or later end up in a heap of corpses, and therein will their true human virtue be revealed in their rotting flesh, for that is as good as human righteousness can or will ever get.
Finally, just as His head fell forward on the Cross in His humility, it will one day be lifted up to the highest honor of victory, and all who held their heads high in their indifferent attitude toward Christ, will be lying all over the ground in heaps of decay.
So the warning was set for the Pharisees, which we have been studying in Matthew, who boasted of their repetitive reading of the scriptures, and so is the warning set for all in history who read or hear these words.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
