Psa. 110:1

Psa. 110:1
1 A Psalm of David. The LORD says to my Lord: 'Sit at My right hand, Until I make Thine enemies a footstool for Thy feet.' NAS
In Matt.. 22, where we are currently studying, we have already gone over several passages concerning this Psalm of David. David wrote it. Clearly it carries his title. But this psalm teaches us more than just the relationship of the Lord and David. If you glance ahead in the psalm, you will see this.
David lived about 1000 years BC. That is, he lived many, many centuries before the time of Christ. This psalm was memorized, and recited, and read over and over again and again, by the Israelites. Many certainly understood it. David understood it. Solomon understood it. And their generations understood it. But over time, the Israelites drifted away from God and then many did not understand. But not because they couldn't understand, they simply chose not to understand. Their regulations and rituals took precedence over the doctrine of faith and salvation by the work of God.
They saw no reason for deliverance from sin, but they certainly saw reason for deliverance from more obvious enemies - Rome. The law of faith, Isa. 2:3, was replaced with the law of mans works - the body of mans invented religions.
God has a plan. God did not create this universe and all of life on the spur of the moment, but God created everything in history for a reason. Briefly we know from scripture, that God exists and has existed forever. There was never a time when He did not exist. God is three in individual personalities (Father, Son, and Spirit) and one in essence (all knowing, all powerful, etc., etc.). All three have existed co-eternally and co-equally forever.
Again, from scripture we know that the angels were created, then the universe was created, then Lucifer (the greatest of angels) became arrogant and turned 1/3 of the angels against God. And, after some length of time, there was a judgment against those 1/3 who did not turn back to God. We are not given the details but from our own history, and knowing that God is consistent, we can deduce that there was time when all angels could return to God. And, then that time frame expired and judgment was decided, but has not yet been executed.
We know from other scientific sources that dinosaurs lived long ago (obviously - we have their bones), then were destroyed and the earth fell into a great ice age, then we have our age of man. Genesis describes the restoration of planet earth in six days. This was not the original creation of the universe and earth.
History has continued from Adam until now. Christ came in His first advent and then ascended up to heaven and is now sitting at the right hand of the Father waiting. Waiting for what?
He is waiting for the Plan of God, to continue toward its conclusion wherein the nations will be put into a pattern of which God has previously designed, but in which the nations of earth will place themselves of their own free will actions. Gods plan looks and sees the actions of man in the future. Man, makes up his own history, which just happens to be exactly what God has foreseen. God does not make any of us do or think anything. He just knows ahead of time everything that we will think, decide and do, and He knows it for every human being throughout history, collectively.
God the Father is the source of 'the' God to whom we look. He originated the divine plan. Did the Son and the Spirit know the plan too, of course, they know everything. But Gods plan excludes mans efforts in gaining a relationship with Him. Many religions look to God and give Him many different names, but if God were to allow mankind to define his own path to God, then all of Gods perfection would be compromised and there would be no such thing as His highest standard of truth. Furthermore, even justice would be compromised as mankind has already demonstrated his willingness to make exceptions in truth and justice for political expediency.
So God made up one simple rule. All access to Him must come to Him through one source - the second person of the trinity - the Son. This places His work above all of mans, and eliminates all of mans efforts for alternative approaches to God. Man simply has to accept His plan by believing in 'the' Christ - remember what that word means? Hummm. Good time for a test right about now!
So whether dino's, or cave men, or our computer age there is a plan, a very comprehensive plan, and it all will culminate in the Second advent of Christ sooner or later.
What is still to occur? The Church or Royal Family of our current Age, is currently being assembled. The nations are being set into an order with spheres of power to the north, south, east, and west of Jerusalem. Technology is advancing - that should be obvious. Perhaps technology will be a major factor in the antichrists' ability to conquer the world (or try to), as well as peoples ability, who will believe in Christ during that Tribulational Age, to survive during that period of time (internet, satellite phones, freeze dried foods, whatever).
From time to time bad people rise up and try to destroy things - terrorists, Hitler's, Saddam's, but if it is not yet time, then they are defeated soundly. We have witnessed these events many times in the past century.
So when the last designated person believes in Christ, and is admitted as the last person to be a part of the Royal Family, then the Rapture will occur instantly. There will be no delay. God does not doddle unless there is a specific reason. With the removal of all believers from the earth in the Rapture, then the earth, without its preservative (believers) and without its target (believers) of divine blessing and support, then the earth will begin to deteriorate as would a piece of raw meat left out in the heat of the day. That deterioration will be rapid. So rapid that in less than seven years the earth would destroy itself permanently were it not for the return of Christ. What keeps the world around for seven years? Those who believe in Christ during that period of time. And Christ will return to rescue them.
The nations (collections of peoples) will rise up and utterly rebel against God and truth and that is when they will be ready for Christs' foot. Until the enemies are made a footstool for His foot. That is the completion and sum total of Gods historical (yet future) plan until the second advent of Christ.
David's son and Creator is that savior, the unique person of the universe, Jesus Christ, the second person of the trinity, the Son of God. Who, by the way, is currently sitting (man) at the right hand of ultimate honor and power (equality with God) awaiting the fulfillment of human history in accordance with Gods original divine plan. Which, plan, by the way, is unfolding right before our eyes with every beat of our individual hearts. We cannot stop it. We cannot change it. But we can become a part of the winning side of it by committing to a daily study of His Word.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
