1 A Psalm [mizmowr] and Song [shiyr] at the dedication [chanukkah] of the house [bayith] of David [David].
I will
extol [ruwm] thee, O LORD [Yahovah]; for
thou hast lifted me up [dalah], and hast not
made my foes ['oyeb] to rejoice [samach] over me. KJV-Interlinear
1 A Psalm;
a Song at the Dedication of the House. A Psalm of David.
I will
extol Thee, O Lord, for Thou hast lifted me up, And hast not let my enemies
rejoice over me. NASB
The psalm, ‘mizmowr,’ or a poem set to music, the song, ‘shiyr,’ the singing of a man or a woman, and the house, ‘bayith,’ which here does not refer to the building made of materials, but the building within the soul, made of doctrine. And so David lifts his inner voice up with great appreciation.
He extols or praises the Lord, giving credit and recognition to Christ alone, for all that He has done for him.
To be lifted up, refers to the action of lifting up as one would lift a pail of water up from a deep well, or a man being lifted up out from down in a deep pit. The idea is that someone else is doing the work of lifting, whereas the man in helplessness, or the water cannot do the lifting themselves.
Foes or enemies, refers to anything and everyone who is in opposition to ones recovery or rescue or betterment.
You cannot do for yourself that which requires God to do.
You did not cause your own birth. You did not cause your own life. You did not determine the time in history in which you would be born. You did not cause your own growth. You cannot control the environment in this world in which you live.
And so, other than making decisions from time to time, there is not much of your life that you have control over. For history and the world are far bigger than any of us, and certainly none of us can control the world, the nations, the people, and it is even difficult to exercise self-control over our own thoughts. And certainly there is the question of your life, its duration as well as your destiny and the quality of that destiny.
For certainly without doctrine in the soul, then your thoughts are restricted to the functions of the sin nature that exists within you.
God does far more for us than anyone really realizes. And when you are finally able to connect the dots of your life as it relates to reality, then God becomes the one and only person who deserves praise, thanks, and complete recognition.
Realize too, that your spiritual growth is completely dependent on God and Gods spiritual process. You can neither advance yourself, nor even learn doctrine or the things of God unless you are taught. And that is the biggest single thing that has the greatest impact on your life, that being your spiritual growth.
Your growth can flourish when it is done the right way, or it can crash, when you get it in your head that you can do it all on your own.
