8 Who is
the King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle. NASB
And as though two performing parties are calling back and forth, as one might expect from the opposite sides of a choir, then one side commands that the gates be opened, while the other side of the choir responds, for whom are the gates to be opened.
In a city, if the gates are closed and someone approaches and asks that the gates be opened, the gate keeper might ask, 'Who goes there?'
And the answer follows, 'the King.'
The Lord who is the king. The Lord who is mighty in word and deed. The Lord who is mighty in battle. It is the King of kings, the Lord of lords, who is sovereign over all things. The one who is strong within Himself, mighty in acts and action.
It is the one with whom you would be glad to open up not only the gates to your city, the doors to your homes, but also to the inner most dwellings of your hearts.
The king is identified as the Lord. The king is identified as God. The Lord is identified as the second person of the Trinity, the Son of God, who is identified throughout the scriptures as Jesus Christ.
