Psalm 18:28

28 For thou wilt light ['owr] my candle: [niyr] the LORD [Yahovah] my God ['elohiym] will enlighten [nagahh] my darkness. [choshek] KJV-Interlinear

28 For Thou dost light my lamp; The Lord my God illumines my darkness. NASB

Light in the scriptures is used to illustrate a clear view of ones surroundings, making it easy to understand and discern who you are, what you are, where you are going. It illustrates your current position and your path of life with purpose and meaning. It illustrates prosperity, success, happiness, and holiness.

Darkness represents the opposite, such as confusion, uncertainty, poverty, loss, suffering, failure to discern or understand life around you, and so forth.

Darkness is the state of the world. The world is the environment you live in and Bible doctrine is the light that helps you see life clearly.

So the candle is the source of light, or Bible doctrine, and the enlightenment of my darkness is the function of your life in the light within the world of darkness that surrounds you.

Without light you cannot even see the nose on your face. With light, you can see clearly, everything that is around you and then figure out how to get from point to point in life.

Without light, you cannot know where you are going let alone know where you are. You are totally lost, but just do not know it.

Therefore, even though you can easily see your surroundings, since you have eyes and the senses to get along in this world, there is still the larger world, the spiritual world, that you cannot see or even detect. And it is that world that decides who you are, where you are, where you are going, and where you will end up when this life comes to an end.

Bible doctrine, once you learn it and keep on learning it, helps you get to a better finish, a successful finish, a phenomenal finish for this life and thus is a very good preparation for the next life.

Lack of doctrine, is what you have when you decide that you do not need doctrine, that you know enough already, and will be surprised even embarrassed, when your life comes to an end, and then you discover too late, that you were the fool.

A typical child is born, grows up and attends school until the age of perhaps twenty-two. Even after college, the learning does not stop, it is only a beginning. You need several more years to apply your knowledge and then learn better ways of using your training. That could easily put you to age twenty-five or thirty.

If you have not dedicated about twenty years, or more, of your life to a daily Bible study, then you are not prepared. Your daily study is your academic study in the spiritual realm. Without a consistent and long term study program under your belt, you are neither prepared, nor can you be prepared to go it alone in this world, because your spiritual foundation is lacking.

Your path in life lasts your entire life. Stop your studies and you turn off the lights in your travels through life and you are left with traveling in the dark. You can easily get lost, have a wreck, or worse.

Don't refuse to light your lamp (your daily study) and certainly don't turn your lights off (your application of that doctrine) by presuming that you know enough or know it all.
