Psalm 16:2

http://www.dailybiblestudy.org

2 O my soul, thou hast said ['amar] unto the LORD, [Yahovah] Thou art my Lord: ['Adonay] my goodness [towb] extendeth not to thee; KJV-Interlinear

2 I said to the Lord, "Thou art my Lord; I have no good besides Thee." NASB

'Thou has said,' indicates the psalmist, or the writer, or more specifically the one who is speaking - namely you or self.

'You have said,' or 'I have said,' 'in my soul' is implied since ones own thoughts originate from the soul.

To the Lord, 'Jahovah,' is the personal name of the Lord, the second person of the Trinity, who we know now historically as Jesus Christ. Jahovah also means self-existent one, or eternal. Therefore the second person of the Trinity is God and has always existed. There never was a time when He did not exist.

The physical person of Jesus was born through Mary, but the deity or Christ has and always will be God.

Lord, 'Adonay,' is an emphatic form meaning ruler or sovereign. And the Lord, Jesus Christ, is the sovereign ruler over all that is, and is especially viewed in that regard by the believer. And more than that, that belief comes from the very depths of the soul of the believer who really and truly believes that Christ is Lord.

Good means the source of good. Good is that which is decent, moral, upright, virtuous, noble, worthy.

Good comes from no other source except God. There is no other source. For the ultimate source of good is the essence of God and that essence occurs nowhere except in God.

The universe, the world, humanity, angels, all things that are not God, are incapable of generating or originating good.

So, any good that is found in you, must first come from God, and since anything in you that is from God comes only from what you learn, then that source is doctrine and your ultimate application of doctrine to your life.

Therefore, your good intentions, your sincerity, your good deeds, and so forth are not good. Human good is not divine good. Human good is mans arrogant view of self.

'My goodness extends not to thee,' means just that. Mans good is not divine good. And therefore, mans good, if man has any legitimate good, must first come from God. And there is only one way to receive Gods good and that is from an advancing and functional spiritual life.

That means you have to be a Christian, be in fellowship, and study daily and learn and understand and apply, and grow. And, you have to do that over, and over, and over, again and again every day of your life. And keep on following that plan for spiritual growth and spiritual production and that is divine good.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
