Proverbs 14:15-16
15 The simple [pathiy] believeth [aman] every word [dabar]: but the prudent [aruwm] man looketh well [biyn] to his going [ashur]. 16 A wise [chakam] man feareth [yare], and departeth [cuwr] from evil [ra]: but the fool [kaciyl] rageth [abar], and is confident [batach]. KJV-Interlinear 15 The naive believes everything, But the prudent man considers his steps. 16 A wise man is cautious and turns away from evil, But a fool is arrogant and careless. NASB
The mature believer has truth in his soul. Truth is the correct correlation of fact to reality. The fundamental truth of life is that there is but one God (the Father). There is but one means of access to God (Jesus Christ - who is God also, but lets not get too tied up in the details for now). There is but one spiritual life (through fellowship), and but one means of advancing to spiritual maturity (through a daily study and application of same to your life). There is but one destiny and purpose for our lives (to be in heaven with God forever). And finally, our life here on this earth is but a temporary life whose primary purpose is to train us and prepare us for our destiny in heaven.
With these truths in mind, where people get confused is when they ignore the last truth and they concentrate their life in pursuing happiness and meaning for this life, in this life. And everything else gets confused after that.
Negative people pursue anything and everything under the sun. They believe in false gods. They believe in false principles of interpersonal activities. They believe in false philosophies in this life. They pursue false goals in success and what they believe to be prosperity and happiness.
They are naive not because they are not aware of Gods truth, but they just choose to ignore it and therefore never learn it, or they pick up only certain fundamental ideas from Gods doctrinal influence in society. So they have some ideas of right and wrong and good and bad, but these ideas are generally restricted to the norms and standards of society. And, without Gods instruction, all of the norms and standards of society will eventually get twisted into rules of bias, prejudice, hate, and eventually result in atrocities of some sort. Even gossip is a form of social atrocity.
The negative person (negative toward their spiritual life) pursues life in the darkness of false wisdom, false goals, false objectives, false hopes. Lacking truth, they are by default careless with their life and everyone whom they influence away from truth.
The positive believer pursues truth by means of their daily study of Bible doctrine. They become oriented with God, with life in this world, with them self. God will not make the daily decisions that you need to make everyday, but His word in your soul will guide you in making good decisions from day to day.
Will you become perfect? Of course not. You are a human being, and imperfect by definition. But in this world of imperfections, unless you have an edge of some type, then everything you do will result in failure.
Gods Word in your soul gives you that edge. The wise person (the one with a functioning spiritual life) learns right from wrong. They learn when to enter into a debate and when to avoid being sucked into the quagmire of a useless discussion between negative people. They know that regardless of the direction of this world, that by maintaining their spiritual status, God will bring their life to a successful conclusion regardless of their circumstances in life.
God knows the future. He is the perfect advisor and can guide you clear of the difficulties in life. And if God does guide you right into the heart of the storm, then there is a reason for that, and a purpose for your being there, and you will be capable of handling it.
The world will throw all sorts of distractions at you. From crusades for social good, to boycotting this or that public wrong, to taking a position on some hot political topic. Be careful that you are not fully distracted away from your daily study. Getting involved in the issues of the day are one thing, but getting torn away from your study of the truth of life can lead to your pursuing or promoting even worse ideas in the public forum.
Public controversy is usually many wrong ideas in conflict with each other. And wrong ideas contesting wrong ideas because all are based on wrong facts or wrong suppositions, is a distracting road to disaster for all involved. 'Why do the nations rage?'
If everyone has fallen off the cliff, then debating the order of their fall is quite useless. Better to unpack your parachute wouldn't you think? But a negative society will continue their fall toward disaster, and all the while they will debate issues that are useless in the end. When the bottom comes to meet them all, the debate will finally end.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
