You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Proverbs 13:19-20

19 The desire [ta'avah] accomplished [hayah] is sweet [areb] to the soul [nephesh]: but it is abomination [tow`ebah] to fools [kaciyl] to depart [cuwr] from evil [ra].
20 He that walketh [halak] with wise [chakam] men shall be wise [chakam]: but a companion [ra`ah] of fools [kaciyl] shall be destroyed [ruwa]. KJV-Interlinear

19 Desire realized is sweet to the soul, But it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil. 20 He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will suffer harm. NASB

To the person who pursues the light of truth, which is to say, the person who studies the Bible daily, learns its principles and morals, and lessons for life, that person will see rich reward from God. And, since God is the source of all good things, and since God knows better than even you, the things that will please you the most, then the blessings you receive from God will be the greatest blessings that you could ever acquire.

The desires of the mature believer, when they are accomplished, will be the greatest source of contentment, prosperity, and happiness ever. There is nothing in this universe which can out do that which God and your spiritual maturity can do.

The negative believer on the other hand, pursues the darkness of life. They come to love the evil they surround themselves with, and that love becomes their trap. They cannot release themselves from it. And, to do so becomes detestable to them. This is obvious in a person who has low self esteem, who has high insecurities. They cling to anything that appears to make them feel secure or whole. They close their eyes to the false security even when they know that their pursuit is a false one.

Simple examples of this are, the personal relationships that homosexuals pursue, or the relationships that two normal people pursue outside of marriage, or a person who loves to smoke knowing full well that it is bad for you. Anyone who is trapped by some form of activity which helps them to escape reality (drugs, alcohol) is also another example of this principle. This list is a long one.

But these are just some of the examples of the world, in which the world (the jungle) will trap you when you do not pursue (with a passion) your Bible study.

Walk in the dark and you will trip every time. To avoid tripping in life, you have to walk where there is light so you can see.

Our second verse in this passage covers this principle perfectly.

There is a quote which I have in my notes, but I cannot recall where it came from. It goes like this.

'Tell me your companions, and I will tell you what you are.'

Simply put, you become just like that which you associate with. Several proverbs make this point clear.

A Dutch proverb says, 'He that lives with cripples learns to limp.'
A Spanish proverb says, 'He that goes with wolves learns to howl.'
An English proverb says, 'He that lies down with dogs shall rise up with fleas.'
And an Oriental proverb goes like this, 'He that takes the raven for his guide shall light upon carrion.'

So if you walk with fools, if you associate with people who ignore the Bible, who ignore their own spiritual lives, then you will become just like them. You will turn out the same as they are - negative, indifferent, antagonistic, opinionated, complaining, etc., etc., etc. All losers in life.

What do losers in life, get out of life? Nothing. Remember that life is not defined as your existence from physical birth to your physical death, which could be up to a hundred years of age give or take. I think that the average life span here in the USA is now around 79 or 80 years of age.

Life is defined as your existence from the point of your physical birth until the end of time, or forever. That is an infinitely longer period of time. Your life here on this earth is nothing when compared to your life in eternity.

The mature believer knows this. The positive believer knows this. Since your life inevitably is determined by the decisions you make, and since your decisions you make inevitably bring you into associations with ideas and people and so forth, then would it not be wise to associate with those who will do you more good than harm?

Associating with positive believers is the ultimate association as far as ones social life is concerned. Association with Christ (learning doctrine), is the ultimate association, period. Once you find someone who is wise, then your feet should race to and wear a path to His doorstep.

Christ is that person, not celebrities, not politicians, not Hollywood, no one but Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the only true celebrity in all of history. And you should race to the doorstep of Bible doctrine.

Choose your friends wisely and do not allow your emotions to react to some negative concept in life and consequently rule your life now, and destroy your entire future.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
