Proverbs 13:1
1 A wise [chakam] son [ben] heareth his father's [ab] instruction [muwcar]: but a scorner [luwts] heareth [shama] not rebuke [ga`arah]. KJV-Interlinear 1 A wise son accepts his father's discipline, But a scoffer does not listen to rebuke. NASB
All of life is full of examples from our physical world, which pertain to the spiritual realm. We are Gods children. He is the Parent. It is no different for our spiritual lives than it is for our earthly lives while we are children looking to our parents, or parents looking to our children.
Among the children (believers) of the same parents (God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) it is no new thing for some children to be hopeful and others somewhat difficult.
There is great hope for those that have a reverence and respect for their parents, and are willing to be advised and disciplined by them. He that listens and learns is a wise child, and is by far wiser, if he hears his parents instruction, desires to hear it, regards it, and complies with it. He that only gives it the hearing (in one ear and out the other), or ignores instruction altogether, is destined for trouble and difficulty in his life.
This is the same for children in this world as they are growing up. It is also the same for people of all ages as they relate (or not) to their spiritual life.
There is little hope for those that will not so much as hear rebuke with any patience, but scorn, ridicule, and refuse to submit to establishment (or authority) in any form, and scoff at those (any instructors of truth) that try to deal faithfully with them.
How can faults be repaired or avoided if one will not listen to it, but look at those who would instruct them as their enemies?
The world is full of celebrities who could be examples of young children. Unfortunately most celebrities are failures in themselves and are not good examples. But young people (and old ones alike) still look to them as an example of the freedom and success they too wish to have.
That is the worlds calling to our inner lusts or insecurities. It is easy to fall down to worldly desires, and ignore the calling of truth from a study of Gods word. After all studying the Bible is somewhat boring, slow, and one just doesn't see much of a response from God nor as quickly, as one sees the actions of the world.
So we study one or two verses a day, then we have to wait another 24 hours before we study another one or two verses. Sloooow!
But we often forget in our hurry up impatience that over the course of a year or two years or three years or more, those one or two verses add up to thousands of verses and many hours or contemplation of that which we are taught.
We grow up certainly, and as it takes us years to grow up from age 12 to age 21, to age 51, to age 91, so also spiritual growth takes us years as well. But growing up is a certainty if we are obedient to our study habit and utilization of what we learn in our daily life.
The rest of life is just filler to help us apply our wisdom. Hummm, now that is an interesting thought worth pondering!
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
