Lesson # Prov. 11:22 Study Material - Prov. 11:22 You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Prov. 11:22 22 As a jewel [nexem] of gold [zahab] in a swine's [chaziyr] snout [aph] , so is a fair [yapheh] woman [ishshah] which is without [cuwr] discretion [taam] . KJV-Interlinear Prov. 11:22 22 As a ring of gold in a swine's snout, So is a beautiful woman who lacks discretion. NAS These two, the swine and the woman are compared. Their accessories, rings and discretion are compared as well in this verse. Now the gold is not real and the woman is not real. The swine and the indiscretion are real however. The word for gold here is a reference to exterior color and not the real thing. This is cheap jewelry meant to make ones appearance more pleasant or even desirable, and perhaps to make others (the naive in terms of jewelry) envious of the wearer of the jewelry. There are people out there who have no real concept of value or appreciation of something that is truly genuine. They are easily swayed with fake jewelry. After all it does glisten and sparkle. Also the concept includes the feminine perspective of jewelry, make-up, dress, appearance, and so forth. Looking good! Now the swine is the reality of life. The pig is a disgusting animal. It stinks to high heaven. Ever been a pig farm? The smell will follow you for weeks. It just doesn't wash off. Gold is representative of that which is true and right, but this gold we have already seen is the fake version of truth. The jewelry is something that you adorn yourself with - on the outside. Discretion here is the moral content of the soul, or rather the distortion of it. This all points not to women in general, nor even men by lack of reference, but it points to and describes the spiritual life of anyone who rejects Gods Word. They turn to the only other philosophies and beliefs in existence with which they will live by - human viewpoint. We have already seen that human viewpoint (a part of that great 'other' opinion in this universe) is a false view of life. It is as fake as the gold colored jewelry. It has no real value - in that you pay a price (retail) for it, but you could not give it away once you have purchased it. Perhaps at a junk sale you could sell a huge collection of fake jewelry for a very small fraction of what you originally paid for the whole lot. And, by the way, we all buy things that lose their value immediately after we have purchased them. So it is in the spiritual life, or should I say in the lack of a spiritual life to which many folks look for value and meaning, and all they are getting is fake stuff, a fake life. They adorn themselves with their compromises in life and they are trying to adorn a pig to make it better than it really is. Can't be done. Go to a pig farm when you get the chance. And I mean a real pig farm, one with lots and lots of pigs. Once you smell the stench, then you'll understand the lesson. Adding a fake gold ring to the piggy will not improve their smell or their appearance. To God, mankind is ugly. Isaiah describes mans righteousness as being comparable to filthy menstrual rags. Rags similar to those used in his day, not to the new feminine products that are available today. Those rags are used rags which are reused (over and over) and never cleaned. So we have a piggy which is not only ugly but filthy and stinky to the max. Anyone who ignores Gods word and attempts to replace it with a spiritual life of their own design is not seeing the reality of their false approach to life. Their indiscretion is that moral life which relies on human viewpoint and not on Gods divine viewpoint. We generally think of a woman's indiscretions as those which relate to the ladies of the night. Prostitutes. Any man, any woman, anytime, anywhere, for a price. Their activity is not one of virtue, but to satisfy a lust for the price (money). Something viewed as having value. So again we look at the fake spiritual life. It is pursued on the basis of fake morals. The one who perceives themselves as being desirable or satisfied with their life, is neither desirable from the viewpoint of anything that is honorable, nor satisfied. Its lusts are never quenched. So the fake spiritual life is never satisfied, because the basis of it, lacks the ability to satisfy. Just as you cannot make a living pig more appealing or more presentable, so too you cannot use human viewpoint to enhance or even accomplish a spiritual life that will complete you. The compromises, the pretenses, the excuses offered are only for your own ears and no one else's. The negative person just fools them self. There is only one source of morals and that source is Bible doctrine. There is only one source of discretion, and that is from Bible doctrine. There is only one source of beauty, value, even intrinsic value, and that is Bible doctrine on the inside of the soul. To get it there, you have to study it, learn it, and then use it.
