Prov. 11:19-20
Lesson # Prov. 11:19-20
Study Material - Prov. 11:19-20
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Prov. 11:19-20
19 As righteousness [tsadaqah] tendeth to life [chay] : so he that pursueth [radaph] evil [ra] pursueth it to his own death [maveth] .
20 They that are of a froward [iqqesh] heart [leb] are abomination [towebah] to the LORD [Yahovah] : but such as are upright [tamiym] in their way [derek] are his delight [ratsown] . KJV-Interlinear
Prov. 11:19-20
19 He who is steadfast in righteousness will attain to life, And he who pursues evil will bring about his own death. 20 The perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD, But the blameless in their walk are His delight. NAS
The Word of God is a critic of the thoughts and intent of the heart. Again we refer to the principle of opinion. There are but two opinions in this universe. Note that the universe is a very big place, and no human will ever see it all at anytime in human history. So we will not find a third opinion. It does not exist.
Gods opinion is contained within the covers of the Bible. Mans opinion comes from everything else in life. Now why do we keep repeating this? Because people do not get with the program. They keep adding their own ideas of life, into their spiritual life, or so they think that is what they are doing and they think that is ok to do. Wrong.
Here we have yet another contrast of opinions and wills. Gods and mans. God respects only one opinion - His. His is that of sinless perfection. Mans opinion is that of compromise, pretending, deception, hypocrisy, contradiction, distortion, dishonesty, avoidance. Hummm! We could probably add other terms, but you should get the idea.
So what exactly are these flaws which man tries to include in his spiritual life. Well first we need to define evil I suppose. Most think of it as that which pertains to others, and never to self. 'Who me, evil?'
Evil is anything and everything that is not of God, or not within the sphere which God has defined as holy. So what is holy? Holiness is the combination of righteousness and justice - Gods righteousness and Gods justice. Not mans. Holiness is that which is 'set apart' and has survived the test of judgment.
Can man define holiness? No. Can man create holiness? No. Can man determine or decide what is holy and what is not? No. Is there such a thing as holy water, holy robes, holy anything? Does it have any power? No and no.
Only God can define holiness. Only God can make any person holy. Things are irrelevant. Things are non-living 'things' and therefore any concept of life is irrelevant to it, whatever 'it' may be. 'Things' have no power and therefore cannot do anything for you in life.
So do not be deceived by the magic potions or holy waters, or anything that is presented as having some form of supernatural power. They do not. Only Bible doctrine in the soul can achieve holiness or the state of holiness in your life.
Now that said, evil is anything that is not of God. Repeated I know, but it is important to understand. Anyone who is out of fellowship, is technically in a state of evil. Yep! That can be you. And most likely is you. You just always thought of yourself as being a nice person. But 'nice' is not a part of the holiness definition.
So we live our life in deceit whether we realize it or not. We live our life hoping to include our little personal desires - 'pretending' that they are ok and acceptable. What desires or personal beliefs? Oh, like homosexual ideas, shacking up out of marriage, skipping by without Bible study, a work hard ethic excluding God in the life, being one with nature, just being a nice and pleasant person. All these are deceptions if we use them to replace Bible study and a legitimate spiritual life, in our life.
The steadfast and the blameless are those folks who persist in their Bible study, who keep themselves in fellowship, who manage their lives with respect to Gods standards and not with compromises in life style.
The evil and the perverse in heart? Ahhh, now there is the key, the heart. What is the content of the soul? Gods opinions or the worlds? The perverse and the evil heart is that which operates apart from Gods standards. Innocence is not an excuse. Ignorance is not an excuse. Usually these are not relevant anyway, because mankind knows of God, of His Word, and consciously chooses against Gods opinion.
The evil and the perverse are rejected by God. Anything less then perfection is rejected. Therefore, if Gods Word is the only standard of perfection, then Gods Word is the only thing which God will respect. The evil and the perverse travel a path to destruction. You can be the nicest person who has ever lived, never having used profanity, never having sipped hard liquor, but if you have rejected God, then you are evil to the core. Remember the camel and the eye of the needle parable.
Who does God respect? Who does God delight in? The righteous. Who is that? Anyone who is advancing toward spiritual maturity. Anyone who is consistently in fellowship and operating on all cylinders with Bible doctrine. That could be you!!! Or not. You have the power to become one or the other - good or evil - merely by what your attitude is toward God and doctrine.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
