Prov. 11:1-2
Lesson # Prov. 11:1-2
Study Material - Prov. 11:1-2
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Prov. 11:1-2
1 A false [mirmah] balance [mozen] is abomination [towebah] to the LORD [Yahovah] : but a just [shalem] weight [eben] is his delight [ratsown] .
2 When pride [zadown] cometh [bow] , then cometh [bow] shame [qalown] : but with the lowly [tsana] is wisdom [chokmah] . KJV-Interlinear
Prov. 11:1-2
1 A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, But a just weight is His delight. 2 When pride comes, then comes dishonor, But with the humble is wisdom. NAS
We have just finished our study of Matt.. 21, where we have covered an extensive study of attitude, selfishness, and the incorporation of ones own personal views in with Gods views within ones life. Remember that there are but two opinions in this world. Gods opinion is the first, and all other opinions are grouped into the second category. Now when we speak of opinion we are speaking from the point of truth as an opinion is either oriented to truth or not.
God created all that there is. He defined and designed the entire universe and all that is in it. If we consider a subject such as math, then that was defined and invented by God. Its functions are true functions with regard to math principles. If we go a little overboard and think that math is the answer to all of life's problems, then we have gone away from the purpose of math, and have attempted to define math as some form of answer to the spiritual realm, or of some higher plane of existence. That of course is a false concept.
Getting back down to earth and into our everyday life. We can compare a relationship such as marriage, to shacking up to same sex relationships and so forth. The former is a true concept of divine establishment. The latter are distortions or compromises of the principle and an attempt to change that which God has designed, to fit ones own personal arrogant (thought apart from Bible doctrine) desire. The latter are conveniences of lust and reject Gods design.
This said we now have a set of scales or a balance which is false. Most apply this proverb to business and that which merchants do in order to cheat their customers. This proverb actually comes from that concept. A merchant has two sets of weights. Both are false. One set is lighter and is used when selling. On a scale you place the weights on one side, then you place the product on the other side. When they balance then you have the weighed amount. If light weights are used, say a five pound weight is marked with a five but really weighs four, then you sell four for the price of five. The customer is cheated but none the wiser. The scale says five.
When the merchant buys for his own stock, then he uses a heavier weight, say he will use an eleven pound weight which is marked ten, so he gets an additional pound when he buys.
Both approaches to measuring out truth, are false. And such is the case in life when we face differing attitudes toward truth. Some will clearly tell you a lie. Some will mix in a little truth with the lie. Some will mix a little lie in with the truth. All are false approaches to life and these are rejected by God.
If you are going to live the spiritual life then you have to live it properly. There is no room for living a fifty/fifty life or an eighty/twenty life. When you mix in untruth with truth, then you allow for even more compromises in your life, and you allow for a little more distortion, and a little more distortion , and a little more , and a little more within your life. Your life may span eighty years and over that long time span you can easily slide deeper and deeper into the pit of the false life. And because the compromises in your life are so vague each time you compromise, then you do not notice just how deep you have sunk into that pit, until it is too late.
There is no reward for a falsely lived life. If you compromise in your life, then your tendency will lean in the direction of compromise, and the Bible doctrine in your soul will be diluted down more and more. You fool yourself if you think that you can beat the system (Gods system).
On the other hand God provides you with a just set of scales - Bible doctrine, and the means of using it in your life. Knowing that we are all weak humans, God further defines a sphere within which you can live your life, and in which He can help you not only maintain a spiritual balance, but can help you grow and stabilize in your spiritual life. We call this sphere, fellowship. There are several studies on this subject already.
In this God delights. In ones true spiritual life there is a set of scales in which we can discern right from wrong and stay on the correct path which God intends for us to follow in life.
Pride and humility are not really posture oriented concepts, but they are really divine viewpoint oriented attitudes. Pride rejects or attempts to water down Gods viewpoint. Humility is the opposite in which we comply with Gods view (Bible doctrine). With the former (pride) there is nothing good which will come from it. It is not honorable. With the latter (humility) there is a tremendous amount of good which comes into ones life - wisdom which is the mind of Christ, which is Bible doctrine.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
