Lesson # Prov. 7:6-9 Study Material - Prov. 7:6-9 You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Prov. 7:6-9 6 For at the window of my house I looked out through my lattice, 7 And I saw among the naive, I discerned among the youths, A young man lacking sense, 8 Passing through the street near her corner; And he takes the way to her house, 9 In the twilight, in the evening, In the middle of the night and in the darkness. Solomon offers A story, a parable to teach the ways of the wicked and the principles of staying away from them. So he offers a young man who could be any person young or old in life, but anyone who lacks Bible doctrine in their soul, therefore they are young spiritually. We all have time on our hands. God gave us all three capital assets with which to invest and use to our advantage. Those assets are time, volition, and Bible doctrine. But there is also the information that saturates the world, information that is not spiritual food, not Bible doctrine. Its source is the sin nature which is inside everyone of us. So what do we do with our time and what decisions do we make on a daily basis? From our home (our soul) we look out the window at the world and we see all manner of things. Some people are workaholics and have a drive to be busy in their chosen field or hobby. Others see opportunity for easy ways around work and might try to steal rather than work for the things they want in life. Others are social butterflies and like to talk and gossip and generally wander aimlessly in life. Still others look out their window from their soul and see a world of technology, or a world of burden, some in happiness, some in despair. The world is huge from mans perspective, with a lot of things going in all directions and all of the time. So how does one choose between what is right and what is wrong? How does one choose between what is profitable to ones self, and that which is destructive? Solomon looks out and sees those who are naive in life, those who do not discern, those who lack common sense, and certainly there are a lot of people in this world that lack common sense. The first few verses in this psalm teach us that we need a foundation of wisdom in our soul before we venture out into the world. Jesus was 12 when He was discussing doctrine with the elders in the Temple. So young people do have the capacity for learning and understanding. But a young person is not tied to physical years alone. A person of 112 who lacks doctrine in their soul is young spiritually, though they might be very old physically. A spiritual infant as it were. Here are the dangers, the temptations, verse 8 and 9. An ignorant person passes through the streets in the night. During the day there isn't much action. Everyone is working at their jobs and otherwise busy with the burdens of life. But at night, in the leisure time, when entertainment and / or concealment is desired, that is the time of temptation. And so the world tempts. One sees the tempts, smells them, feels them. One walks near their corner, near where they live. Who? Temptation. Here it is portrayed as the harlot, or anything out there in the world that entices you away from your Bible study. Those temptations may very well be drugs or alcohol, but they might be the self righteous life as well. You might be lured by the social scene, the business scene, the political scene, or whatever it is that takes you away from a consistent program of Bible study. Remember that the sin nature has an area of strength which we call human good, and an area of weakness which we call sin. Generally people only think of the sin category in life that makes evil or wickedness, but not so. These are only half of the problem of wickedness. Human good deeds are the other half, and these are good things that people do in life, but apart from God and Bible doctrine. Remember that you can walk a person across the street and that is a good thing, but if you are out of fellowship, then it is only human good, a good deed done from the energy of your own self, and will not gain you anything in your spiritual life. But if you are a believer in fellowship and do the same thing from the perspective of Bible doctrine, then God accepts this as an application of His will and word in your soul. This then is divine good and builds up spiritual muscle in your soul. Again in verse 8 and 9, a person walks in the night (that is, walks out of fellowship) being tempted more and more. Getting closer and closer to the corner and then to the door of the tempts of the sin nature. Without any means of fighting these tendencies, then we all would and will walk right through that door and into the harlots arms. In the night (out of fellowship), being enticed by what the world has to offer our lusts (greed, power, attention, sex, whatever), sooner or later you will taste a little, then more, then you are trapped, and often times that way our of that trap is not a pleasant one. You could end up with a bad reputation, a disease, and loss of some kind. But not to fret. If you have gone this way, there is always a means of escape - Bible doctrine. So long as you are living and breathing, there is hope. All it takes is the right attitude and the right decisions to embrace Bible doctrine.
