Prov. 6:20-22
Lesson # Prov. 6:20-22
Study Material - Prov. 6:20-22
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Prov. 6:20-22
20 My son, observe the commandment of your father, And do not forsake the teaching of your mother; 21 Bind them continually on your heart; Tie them around your neck. 22 When you walk about, they will guide you; When you sleep, they will watch over you; And when you awake, they will talk to you.
In life we are constantly faced with two opinions. That of our sin nature, and that of Bible doctrine.
Your sin nature is the source of evil, its production is wickedness. Those are the things you think, say and do. Its good is human good - wood, hay, and stubble. Its spiritual status is non-existent or often referred to as carnality. It provides no residual value in the life. Only temporary and misleading values. Its destiny is misery.
Bible doctrine, on the other hand is the source of Gods will. Its production is divine good, the things you think, say and do while inside your fellowship state with God. Remember that fellowship with God is not something with which you have an emotional experience. No seizures or out of body stuff. No tongues or gargling sounds that are similar to some kind of possession. These are Hollywood theatrics meant to impress other ignorant people. They are not spiritual. Fellowship with God is maintained by simple compliance with Gods command to keep short accounts of your own personal life. You monitor what you think, say and do, and you confess your sins to God the Father (all prayer is directed to the Father), in Christ's name. Period. 1 Jn 1:9 is the mechanics of this procedure. The Levitical sin offering and fellowship offering provide the basis for the concept and principle of fellowship with God. Now we do not sacrifice animals anymore, but we do pray and we do live our lives from day to day, and we do engage in thoughts. At least most people do!! So monitoring ones sin is imperative in order to maintain fellowship with God. This is the key to your spiritual growth, to your spiritual life.
Compliance with Gods word is mandatory, verse 20. Observe Gods commandments, Bible doctrine. Learn it, know it, understand it, apply it to your life. What is the alternative? Sin and the production of the sin nature which is described in the first portion of this proverb. And its outcome is doom, sudden and unyielding destruction from God.
Hear the 'teaching'. Study you Bible daily. Maintain a positive and teachable attitude toward Gods word. The commandments come from the Father, the authority the source of the wisdom by which we can live our lives in peace, security, and prosperity. The teaching is from the mother, the source of your ongoing daily instruction. The one from whom you respond to or react, in so far as whether or not your are going to learn or not. Both concepts of father and mother are inside your attitude. Your obedience to Gods word and your self discipline to a daily study program. The test here is to see whether or not you are really spiritual material, or just another phony, lazy, sluggard, as previously described. True to the Word, or just another phony person living out their life until it becomes too late.
Bind them, tie them, walk with them, sleep with them, awake with them. Learn, recall, apply, secure, counsel with the doctrines you learn from your study of Bible doctrine. Good advice from this proverb. But to follow through is the real issue.
To bind we study and learn. We memorize, we ponder what we have learned, so that we can recall doctrine and bring it into the forefront of our minds. We transform out think patterns to do right instead of wrong. This brings us orientation to life, adjusts our relationship with family, gives us an understanding of why things are the way they are in life. We apply what we learn to our daily lives. We do not deceive or otherwise try to manipulate or harm people. We rest easy in our thoughts, in our sleep, in our daily lives because we know that God is watching out for us. Panic and empty pursuits of happiness are no more, because those things simply come to us through Bible doctrine. We awake to Gods Word and counsel and use it in our decision making processes.
Patience in Bible study is imperative. Patience is character building. What is the hurry? Bible study is not a one time reading of the Bible and then you know it all. It is a life time commitment of study, daily study, for each and everyday of the rest of your life. Each day is a new beginning. With the rising of the sun and its light shining into your life, so Bible doctrine should shine in your life and be your guide.
Be true to Gods word and He will be true to you. Deny Gods word and you invite misery into your own life. Life is too short for misery, especially when there is so much blessing out there just for the taking. Like the apple on the tree, the good apple that is, just reach up and take it, consume it, enjoy it, benefit from it. So Bible doctrine is ever dangling before you on the branches of life's tree. It is there for the taking.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
